I agree, but not only for the reasons given in the OP. Immigration alone will fundamentally change the culture of America. When latinos are the majority soccer with be the #1 sport in America.

Op clearly hasn't been following the trend of declining physical sports participation in the U.S., and and increase in e-Sports (video game) participation.

U.S. and Global sport participation is going to be more like the movie Wall-E in 20-50 years. (A bunch of obese whales hardly capable of moving)

I can see it happening unless something big happens to change american football.

Not that one is better than the other, I just think more people might drift towards soccer (the real football) because it's different.

I went to a soccer game this year, it was one of the top English Premier League sides who flew out here to play. I left at halftime (100% srs). I just found it so incredibly boring, would rather be home on the misc.

I think a sport that has the potential to dent the USA market isrugby league, because it is basically the same as NFL without the pads and stoppages between plays. Just a few different rules - 6 downs instead of 4, can't pass forward, and every player plays both offense and defense and can run with the ball, tackle, pass and kick etc.

Plus it's already confirmed USA and Canada will host the rugby league world cup in2025.

There's a reason soccer's known as the beautiful game, you have to follow it for a while to start picking up on the intricacies and then you'll start to enjoy watching it not only when there's goals being scored but also when you see an amazing pass with perfect weight and placement that just tears through the defense etc. Not everything is about adding a number to a tally, and watching good football with not many goals is far better than watching sloppy games with clumsy tap ins due to poor teamwork, you just have to start watching it frequently to start appreciating it. And every now and again you'll have an absolute belter of a goal, and not only is it an exceptional goal but the weight it carries is huge also, and there's no better league for this than the English Premier League, it doesn't have all the best players but it's super competitive and it's often just 1 goal that makes all the difference.

There's moments that happen in football that can't be replicated in other sports, like Man City winning the league for the first time in over 40 years, they were down 2-1 against QPR in the very last game of the season, they needed to win to beat Man United who were at the top of the league, a draw wasn't enough, and then in the 5 minutes of extra time they scored twice, the last goal coming from one of the last kicks of the game. You don't see this anywhere else, no other sport can build tension like this, no other sport can turn on its head at a moments notice, this is why it's the best sport and is recognised so by the world. Show me anything that comes close to this...

Pool isn't very "manly", but when i see someone jump two balls, hit a rail, and hit their object ball at the perfect angle ... pretty damn amazing. Golf isn't very "manly", but when i see someone hit out of the sand 150 yards out, curve it around a tree at the same time, and land it within 5 inches of the cup... pretty damn amazing. Gymnastics isn't very manly, but when i see a dude do 3 twisting backflips off the high bar and stick a landing... pretty damn amazing.

If your reasoning for not watching something or doing something is because it isn't "manly" ... you must be pretty boring to talk to. Probably one of those dudes that starts every conversation with another dude with ... "Hey... did you see that football game last night?"

what ive noticed about soccer fans is they REALLY care about going with the crowd as far as what's popular and what others think, so they simply gravitate towards what seems popular and in - they all talk about how its so amazing because lots of other people like it - thats not a good enough reason for me

There's a lot of casuals who jump on board the second something interesting happens in any sport, look at what Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey did for MMA, there's always gonna be sheep. Football, though, is full of die hard fans especially in the English leagues, you have passionate people who will follow their club their whole lives even if they are in 2-3 divisions below the premier league. There's huge clubs like Liverpool, which has a massive history behind it but hasn't done so well in the past 10 years, but it still has a massive following, it's one of the most popular clubs in the world. Since the last time Liverpool has won the league Schmeichel signed with Man United, won the league 5 times, retired, had a son and his son had just won the league playing for Leicester City, crazy.

As a kid's sport, yes it can be #1 because the moms want the kids to feel special as they're on a team where there are no winners or losers because no one scores...and run around to burn off their ADHD energy,

As a pro sport, never. It's boring, the players are floppers, it's embarrassing to watch really. There's no scoring, no contact (if there is, you get a colored index card in your face).

I honestly tried to get into soccer during the '92 Olympics with Alexi Lalas and Cobi Jones. I just couldn't get into it. The Olympics are more fun to watch too, because you're cheering for your country.

That pic in OP is misleading because that's a new stadium...I bet at least half of the people there don't care about soccer, they just wanted to see the Falcons new stadium without paying the NFL's crazy ticket prices.



If any sport takes over, it will be hockey. The NBA is dying since MJ retired. It's becoming a thug league with shorts down to their ankles and no real legitimate stars like MJ, Jordan, Bird, even Shaq. Lebron is the best they have, but he's as easy to hate as he is to cheer for.

Baseball will always be big but it will still be about where it is in popularity...we'll watch it until football season starts.

The NFL is pissing people off with politics and rules that water down the game, so if it falls, I could see hockey filling the void. Baseball will be a boost, but when people want an exciting, fast-paced sport with some big hits. hockey will be waiting...not soccer. Soccer is a slower game to watch than baseball...which is the main complaint about baseball, the pace of the game.

I've been hearing "soccer is going to take off" consistently for 30 years. It never has and never will, no matter how many cheerleaders we have pushing it (mainly liberals).



That's another thing missing from soccer....cheerleaders.

Even hockey gets that angle.

Why do you say especially in the English leagues? Even in Belgium you stick to one team your entire life. You will always have bandwagoners ofcourse but they won't keep coming.
