I got a place in Seattle earlier this year and I've seen a 20% jump in prices since the beginning of the summer. It's bat**** insane. I know a few Amazon guys in their late 20s who were looking at places but got blown out when the places they thought might go for $600k went for $800k.

Wallingford is poverty though, and all those neighborhoods are a pain in the ass to get to downtown from. Most people I know who cannot do the whole seven-figga-*****-dance are looking at Rainier Beach, south of Georgetown or White Center.

wallinford and fremont are ideal urban neighborhoods, close to everything but still have enough room to have a yard and pricey enough to have a low crime rate

It just shows the underlying weakness of the economy. With manufacturing dying, the economy is based on digging sht up and selling it overseas, everyone else is an accountant or lawyer or something, or the people looking after them - hairdressers, waiters, personal trainers (like me) and so on. So really if you have spare cash what can you invest in? Only real estate. So that pushes the prices up.

Everything else is cheap, though. Doesn't stop all the middle class complaining, of course. Every couple of weeks there's an article in the paper about a full-time professional couple living in Bondi or Toorak complaining about the cost of childcare, "Why doesn't the government help us more?!"
