This is true in my experience, and I'm an IT employee at a university, which you'd expect to be composed of super liberals if the OP was true.

I think the reason this seems to be true is conservative (or really non-super liberal) people who work at these places tend to stfu, otherwise the super tolerant liberal coworkers will ruin their lives for having different viewpoints. As a result you only really see outspoken liberals working in IT and everyone else kind of minds their own business and works.
