I think people are hung up on the $200/month, but its really not bad when you consider the spa amenities, yoga/pilates classes, and personal training Equinox has. If you're making over 6k a month which is average middle class, then what's $200/month.

Some gym experiences I've had:

1) Peeing at a urinal. Dude comes up, stands right next to me, looks over the urinal at my dick, looks up at me and smiles. He's about 1 foot from me. Completely froze in terms of what to do (unlike me in general) but I had my dick in my hand and I was peeing. Dude just smiles and then walks off. Felt violated to be honest but I'm a guy, have to walk that sort of thing off.

2) Was putting my shoes on at a bench in the locker room. Naked gay guy comes up about 2 feet from me and starts talking about Trader Joes. Uncomfortably close, I sort of reel back a bit and create space. He just smiles and keeps talking about Trader Joes

3) Go into the locker room at a gym, a couple guys follow me in and just stand there staring at me to see if I'm going to start changing after my workout. I just grab my **** and leave while they just stand there looking at me.


I'm a 5'11 200 pound guy. I know how to fight, I used to fight. I've been in ****ty situations and even I was uncomfortable when this crap happened. Now if I was a 120 pound female and some creep ass motherfcker started doing this ****, I'd be legitimately scared. Or if I had my small kid with me (hypothetical since I have no kids) and one of these creepy bastards started doing this, I'd most likely end up in prison for snapping their neck. Moral of the story: A LOT OF PEOPLE IN GYMS (AND LIFE IN GENERAL) ARE CREEPS. I don't trust any of them and I sure as **** wouldn't want some mentally unstable wig wearing piece of **** talking to my gf, wife or kid in a locker room. I've had enough situations where I was like "WTF" and I'm a dude, I don't want someone who can't stop a psycho perv if they go full unstable mode in the locker room.

Repped. This is a cultural thing that is hard to convince other posters of. Webcam, for example, refers to "exposing nudity to children" - what is supposed to happen in a change room if a kid is learning to swim? I started getting lessons when I was 7, and was used to seeing naked guys at least. It's normal.

And the sauna is a special case - it's absolutely disgusting to see someone in a swimsuit there. I mean at the end of the day if someone doesn't want their kids to be exposed to naked people don't take them to a gym change room or sauna. Pretty simple no?

I make well over 6k a month and I would not throw away 200 a month frivolously. Think of how many expenses there are. That's 2400 a year for ONE thing out of a budget that has to probably account for hundreds of things. 2400 is a decent chunk out of 72k.

Does the gym have a right to make their own policies on their property IMO yes. They have a right to do as they wish with their property, and I have the right to choose another gym.
