You go to college to network. Everything else can be done online.
Some dude doing a bullchit political science degree, but actually puts in the effort towards speaking with his professors and faculty coop programs, as well as local government initiatives will end up getting a decent job faster than a statistics major who only shows up to class and does nothing to connect with industry or his professors.
That being said, the network a person with a STEM degree can earn is probably more valuable and diverse than what someone with an Arts or business degree can earn. With non-STEM degrees you kinda have to rely solely on charisma and halo effect to do well outside of college.
Oh and getting a Masters and eventually PhD makes your choice irrelevant, since you'll be paid decently well for good research.

don't get the hate towards the profession. it's only my job 5 days a week. I make a great salary and have a good QoL doing clinical work. every seasoned doc I know hates life and regrets their choices.

Also, people like to chit on accounting, but I can tell ya, having interned at 2 Big 4 firms, it's the most straight-forward, no non-sense way to earn money. It's boring (that's why I'm no longer in it), but if you're a non-competitive person, and choose to do accounting, it's impossible to fuk up. It's not like rocket science where you have to use any bit of your brain, just memorize stuff, and be willing to crunch Excel. GPA of 3.5 (which is extremely ez) from an ok state school and you're good to go. 60-80 hours only during busy seasons, for the majority of the year you'll be chilling at the office with 40h doing nothing, and still earning a min. of 55k-65k depending on location. As you move up the ranks you can earn 90-100k 4-5 years later. It's no Doctor, but again, it's ez money.

I did undergrad in molec bio and was between a PhD in epigenetics or pharm. My research was in botany and epigenetics and my PI wanted me to goto Cornell or UGA to work with her mentors. working with my 35 year old post doc making 35k a year made my mind up quickly. PI was late 30s - went to Swarthmore and UGA and barely made 70k as a adjunct at my school.
I'm published and work at a large academic hospital. I do great work and love my position. I get that a lot of pharms are idiots and just ride the wave but I did a 2 year residency as well, know my ****, and use it daily to help people.

But what you said has no relevance whatsoever with the networking part. Networking is networking, whether you study biz, law, or history.

EE crew checkin in. Don't be too butthurt just cause this man speaks the truth. Most engineers will start well under 6 figures and will cap around 150K or slightly above if they have excellent technical skills. Getting beyond that requires skills that have nothing to do with engineering.
Word of advice to my eng bros: instead of living in denial ask yourself how you can reach the next level.

You don't just get a degree and rest on you laurel. The degree is merely you entrance pass. Just like your resume get you an interview, not the job. You still need to sell yourself and work your way up through the system. Good luck when you turn 40 after years of work and can't advance without one.

I'm with a mid-size consulting firm on a buy-in track for basically the equivalent of a VP (ownership transition and all that jazz). If you don't have top notch social skills and able bring in projects to generate revenue, it will be very difficult to breach 150. Most people will not even get beyond 130ish.
Of course getting to that next level involves taking a lot of risks and responsibilities as well. You basically own a business and have to commit unlimited time and effort to doing whatever it takes to run it.

I attend codes/traumas and prep drugs for patients - working with residents I'll know what to give and get it ready and "suggest" they use things like ******** vs propofol based on vitals and status. I know peds dosing, concentrations, protocols etc. and can jump in a code if hands are short (ACLS). verify orders and knowing what is not available or a better drug to use. Doctors don't know midazolam, NS, morphine or other drugs are not available so I have to inform them and offer alternatives/equianalgesic dosing. IV to PO dosing. Stop them from trying to fry kidneys and offer a different set of eyes. Help nursing with how and how quickly to push drugs; which goes first an what can be given via gtube. lots of educating. things like that. it's a good 8 hour a day job that I don't have to take home with me.

Don't do it, or make sure you have the math background to pursue a financial analyst or tech job. You don't need to be that good at computer science. You don't need to be a math major or anything like that. Just make sure you don't go through school without it.

It's nauseating the amount of people who put prestige in doing some water-down, money-grabbing redundant degree. Go to college for something that requires proper specific teaching, otherwise you will save more and do better by just getting a certificate. Better yet, that time you spent completing a glorified highschool unit you could have beefed up your resume with work experience. But hey, they peddle constantly that you have to go to college, throw out more useless degrees with elaborate titles just so they keep getting that student money. Then someone finishes their low-tier degree thinks the world owes them everything and complains about how they are in debt.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with making 100k or working at a desk on rather ordinary projects. That's a very respectable career in my book. The problem is that people are unable to humble themselves to accept that reality since it doesn't match their delusional fantasies of wealth and grandeur.
