Holy chip the new Star Wars is a total cuckfest [spoiler warning]

My review as someone that has watched the OT probably over 40 times and has consumed a large part of all the EU.
I left the cinema the first time I saw it feeling a bit bad about what I have just seen. As someone that knows everything about star wars I felt cheated by this movie. I felt a bit uneasy about it, but I also felt the same way about Empire when I first saw it.
Now, after giving it some time, and watching twice, I think this was a good thing for the larger part. It expands in new ways, it sets up a very interesting dinamic between characters that has never been seen in a star wars film and shatters some conventions that I though star wars would not be able to break to leave the viewer in a new place at the end of the film. Regardless on how you feel about the characters themselves, the performances of the main cast have been amazing.
The film has some important problems, mainly trying to pay attention to all characters in a forced and pointless manner, and the SJW stuff although I think is not nearly as bad as some people say, it's annoying and I want that out of my SW (Kathleen kennedy FU). The pacing feels a bit odd and RJ could have had some harmless fun with some ideas that would have made the fans quite happy instead of wasting time on unintersting plotlines. ( Light-dark training montage anyone?)
Other than that I don't really see the problems all the neckbeards hating on the movie are seeing. Emperor palpatine was just an hologram in one movie, and then was killed in a stupid manner in the next one. We didn't knew the whole story aboutl him until 22 years later. We didn't know why vader fell, or what the **** are those clone wars luke mentions in a new hope. I'm sure in 22 years everything that is unexplained in this movie will be fleshed out as well. I think people just want this movie to be 30 years old...
In any case, this trilogy currently has gone from "this is the kind of story you are used to", to "we deceived you with the last one, this isn't going to go the way you think", and that is where we currently are at, nothing more, nothing less. The real value of The Last Jedi won't be able to be really measured until IX comes out. Just like Empire didn't became one of the greatest films of all time until Return of the jedi came out (funny thing that it was received with mixed reviews back then). I don't think it has the potential to be as loved as Empire due the issues I mentioned, but ultimately my opinion on this movie and this whole trilogy is going to depend entirely on how IX is able to wrap everything up.
My only real concern with all this is the fact that each film has been handled by a different writer with free reign, and the way TLJ ends I don't envy JJ for having to come up with something to make IX and the whole trilogy works. But I'm not going to pre suffer about it. Meanwhile, I will continue to enjoy the classic films, the wonderful work of John williams and enjoy some of the great scenes and performances this trilogy has given us.
I'm going to slash some reborns in JKA to kill time time.
PD: Porgs are cool, and they are actually there to hide the real puffins that were everywhere in the island and could not be removed due enviromental laws.

Makes me think Disney mailed a lot of checks.

It's also worth keeping in mind how these are probably the very same chucklecucks who were applauding the new Ghostbusters movie and think that Ocean's 8 is a stroke of original genius.

People need to realize that Star Wars is officially just Disney Princesses in space.
- Force Awakens: Mary Sue* Disney Space-Cinderella Princess
- Rogue One: Sporty Disney Space Princess
- SW Battlefront 2: Bad Girl-Turns Good Disney Space Princess
- Last Jedi:Spoiler!
Out of thethreebig members of the Original Trilogy cast, they killed off everyone except the one who is actually deceased in real life, and then they went and made her Space Mary Poppins.
Bonus Points for subverting beauty rules.

Bonus+ Points for a main villain who isn't afraid to express his emotions...

...With extra emotion.
Spoiler!

*Kind of an interesting development here because everyone was trying to justify Rey being godlike ateverythingshe did because her "mysterious" background would explain it all. Except she's apparently just some nobody, so now what? Granted, the entire SW series has had a theme of nobody-turns-out-to-be-important, but there was alwayssomethingmore to it all behind the scenes. Luke was Vader's son, Anakin was "the chosen one" who brought balance to the force, and hell, evenKyloBenKenwas the son of Han Solo and Leia, who was Anakin's daughter.
One thing that Idon'tsee brought about about Rey is that she is now officially the Participation Award generation hero:
"Oh, you're just another walking, talking bag of meat with a dream, you'respecial, too!Yaaaay!!!"
Personally, I think that Star Wars would have been far more interesting if they took the Originals as a cue to dial back evenfurtheraway from the Jedi/Sith space-magic in favor of a futuristic World War II direction. Just with all of the Marvel/Comic book stuff being produced nowadays, the whole "Force" part is blurring pretty much into the entire superhero genre, which certainly isn't helped by the Marvel-like writing being injected into the Disney Star Wars, and overall it's being turned into a deus ex machina used to finish plot points (e.g. Craigtrooper being mind-tricked instead of literally anything more plausible) rather than write competently.
I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine
My dark grave awaits, my fate is revealed - But I'm not afraid to die

Would be funny if they back pedal on Rey's origin next movie... even if she turns out to be Luke's daughter it will not work.. they already fuked up the narrative way too much. They'll probably try to save it saying she was general Ackbar's offspring or summin lol

Vader undid 20 something years of work he and Palpatine had done and also destroyed any hopes of his father/son empire when he decided to throw him down the bottomless pit, all because he finally learned Luke was worth saving and the Emperor was the cause for alot of his pain.

Starting a new trilogy as a direct sequel (story-wise) to the previous ones, and then throwing out everything mid-trilogy without payoff is a massive failure.

Reposting here, though sure everything has already been discussed to death
Finally watched it and surprised at how disappointing I found it. After a very unoriginal but still enjoyable The Force Awakens, I thought this would be the film to really make this trilogy its own and really pull me back into the universe but I just found it so uninspiring. Some many forced characters and stupid plot points, I actually enjoyed The Force Awakens more. And the villains. Jeez.
Going from arguably the most iconic villain of all time in Darth Vader to Snoke who was absolute chit and an emotional teenager.
I liked Finn in the first film but he was absolutely wasted in this film. Agree with the person above who says he should have been more trained when he first joined, would have given them more scope to improve his character rather than have him on a stupid mission with some random character
And imagine getting an actor as good as Benicio Del Toro and then wasting him like that.
There were so many other things wrong with it as well. Luke not dying and then dying? The lady on a suicide mission deciding to finally do something after more than half the ships have been destroyed? he forced jokes, especially in serious moments ruining any tension?
Only thing I will say is I never really found Daisy Ridley that attractive but she looked good in this film.
They've left themselves a lot to do in the last film. I barely feel like the story has started

Daisey Ridley is a true HBB. Her facial aesthetics are amazing... past that there wasn’t much from this movie. After sitting on it for a couple days, I’m asking myself, where is the tension? Snoke is dead, Rey can clearly beat Kylo in combat and is the strongest ever to use the force, with no training. She has no flaws other than being an orphan I guess? Tension is dead. Story is dead. Can’t even call it a trilogy at this point because Ep IX will be absolutely independent from this film

Honestly, there are ppl who focus their hate on the fact that it features women and POC. Although the political undertones are annoying, the movie sucks because there is really no conflict. Rey would be a terrible character no matter her race, gender, sex, etc. It is like watching the anime one punch man, except without the satire or self awareness. And even in OPM, the protagonist has conflict and struggles, just not the types you would expect in a fighting anime.

SPOILERS AHEAD for complaint purposes:
Im not on board with him suddenly just deciding hes going to kill Kylo in his sleep then running away to die (while leaving a map with R2...of course...why if he really wanted to die alone out there) it just makes no sense to his character at all. Hes got access to the force ghosts of Obi Wan, Yoda, Anakin etc and still cant figure out what to do about his nephew who hasnt even manifested any dark side yet, but Luke just sees it in him and freaks the phuck out without even consulting the wisest jedi of the ages? So he just flips out and decides to kill him like an assassin in his sleep...lol ok..

I feel most of the complaints by 'fans' are people who have little knowledge in general of star wars.

On-top of all of this, Luke had the power to resist Abeloth and I'm sure could have easily stopped Snoke's plans.
But why use books, which have a developed stories, when everything up can be made up and pieced together to confuse everyone meanwhile creating a story with more holes than Swiss cheese.

Finally got to seeing it, and I am pretty disappointed. The movie felt like one giant filler episode. The story was jumbled and lacked any real cohesiveness. The script was bad and the humor felt really forced at times. The Finn and Rose story was literally pointless. My biggest gripe with the film is that it didn't feel like a Star Wars movie. I enjoyed TFA, but after watching this one, it somehow made me like TFA less. The story didn't really move forward. At the end of the day, the Resistance/Rebels again seem to be overmatched by the big bad Empire/First Order. Nothing has changed. They also quickly killed off 2 characters who were deemed to be important in TFA. To me, there just seems to be a lack of reason or purpose going on in these new star wars movies.

Found it. Well that's not creepy. Also, calm down with the "i am clearly an elite of star wars knowledge". You sound like an elitist dweeb. Many people haven't read the books like that yet.

Spoilers below
my only issues with this movie was 1. it was too damn long I don't need to see a 3 hour movie mane. and 2. no one important ever dies in these movies, when the guy was gonna sacrifice himself to stop the cannon from firing the chick saved him, and when she crashes into him she doesn't die. I also don't get how running into something going full speed wouldn't just kill them both anyway. But that's a problem with all movies now days I hate that its all fake tension like marvel movies. kill somebody important for once for the love of god, make them actually sacrifice themselves for others. instead they do the right thing and magically survive it making it mean absolutely nothing.
