I haven't seen it but RT currently has Star Wars at 92% so their reviewers are absolutely phucked.

Isn't Netflix already hemorrhaging money? How can they afford to pay $90M for a full feature movie and not be getting box office or even rental fee revenue? They banking on this bringing in $90M+ of new subscribers?

This kind of thing works for like Supernatural type shows/movies but to just smash orcs and magic together with a present day city seems really weird.

Surprised at all the hate ITT. The trailer interested me, I'll check it out.
Netflix is definitely sliding into SJW oblivion though. If it wasn't for The Punisher I might cancel my sub

Does anyone know if you can bet on these things, and if so where?

This movie apparently tackles race and class issues but he has had many opportunities to be the lead in one of those movies that is more relevant to that than something like this.
Also let's not forget he turned down The Matrix for what? Wild Wild West?

Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

Spoiler!
So, at the end of the movie the main character Robert Neville, badass vampire slayer, sacrifices his life so that two other people can escape with the "cure", ensuring humanity's survival. He saved humanity, so he becomes a legend. Classic, Hollywood ending, right? Well, the book's ending is thatSpoiler!
Neville is the only human left alive, and vampires have taken over the earth. He sleeps at night and hunts vampires by day when they are sleeping. He gets captured by vampires and they are celebrating that they finally caught him, because he's this terror that's hunted them during their sleep. If you're the only human left, the norm has been completely subverted: now they're not the boogeymen, YOU ARE. He's what THEY are afraid of, and just before they murder him he realizes it's a new world and he's just a remnant of the old, and thinks, "I am Legend".

I was legit AMAZED at how much of the Harry Potter books they could fit into the movies, and how closely they matched the books.

Poverty looking action, that's for damn sure:
At least it's consistent with Netflix Original "standards," I'll give 'em that. I had some hopes up because I've always enjoyed Will Smith's work, even when it's just Will SmithasWill Smith.
However, that Netflix Original status had my expectations for rubbish already set. They've been throwing sh*t at an industrial fan and barely taking time to jot down what actuallystuck, and the lack of quality control is becoming increasingly evident. Netflix is becoming like the app store equivalent of tv/movie streaming, epitomizing quantity over quality to an exponential degree.
Netflix as a whole has been going down the sh*tter at a rapid pace. There is just aludicrousamount of (A) Anime, (B) Bollywood, (C) Comedy Standup, and (D) Korean Romantic Comedies, all acting as number-fluffers to service an absence of standards (or self respect).
If Netflix took all the money they've been siphoning intoanything, focused their content to have an ounce of quality thatrealtelevision channels offer, and cut out all of the aforementioned dreck, at least they could sell people on a smaller librarybutit isn't 90% cinematic skidmarks.
Netflix has already lost the numbers war once you subtract the chaff from the equation, so in their vain attempt at puffing up their library, they're only hiding content that people with actual taste would be willing to watch; I would wager that the majority of Netflix usage is broken down to browsing and re-watching the same thing that "just worked" the first time. It's really not that much different from when people would just turn on the television and leave whatever scheduled program was the least offensive to their sensibilities, or channel surf until one or even more of the schedule "blocks" moved up to a different show.
Speaking for myself, I'd rather see them invest in at least short runs of movies people actuallywantto see without having to rent digitally or go to Redbox - essentially the bloody thing that made Netflix popular in the first damned place. Despite their claims to want to become HBO before HBO becomes them, they clearly haven't a bloody cluehowHBO works. They could have capitalized on the whole "binge" behavior by marketing the hell out of the month or two's run of movies, then change it up to regenerate excitement for the next round of licenses. The only thing that people actually want kept around are TV series, but Netflix has been doing a bloody good job at gutting that end of their content (Always Sunny: Never Forget), and pulling an HBO model of changing out movies would not be some divisive moveifthe movies were actuallygood.
And that's not to even say that HBO's catalogue is something special; how long have they had f**kingSuicide Squador that last X-men movie nobody gave two sh*ts about? All Netflix is doing with Bright is paying to own the licensing rights to their own discount-Suicide Squad, bully for you!You spendthrift gits...
Anyway, I agree that it still sounds weird enough on paper, and the trailers aren't selling it any better. Certainly not the sort of thing that just one film could properly lay the ground work for to have organic world-building before jumping into whatever daft "magic wand" plot they came up with for this movie. I also get the sneaking suspicion that it won't hold up over time (Fairy Livesdon'tMatter), and it already appears to be a checklist of Hollywood blockbuster tropes.
