M8 what are you not getting. Im talking about the 6k to 20k btc run. Where marketcap was increasing dramatically. Btc had a stranglehold on the market because s2x fork. Mainstream news was picking i up. Coinbase was talking about the influx of new users and how it was #1 most downloaded app for a time period. Mainstream news was covering it, wall street joined, etc.

Cryptos reach is far broader now than it was

I also just posted how i went to sleep at 600 bil marketcap and woke up to a 560 bil marketcap. Thats money leaving the market, not flowing to alts. As marketcap would be the same with btc dropping

I slightly agree with you some btc money is prob spread to alts. But given how quickly this has happened i would imagine that it hasnt been enough time for people to really simmer on crypto. When btc brings in the new money like this and drops so dramatically given its toe dip into mainstream, id be more inclined to say money would leave the market entirely (for a period)

Unless btc absolutely fails to below 1k. Then i would imagine itd be a slow burgeoning market again

Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

Making myself feel better by watching Sats increase to new ATH.

IOTA is nearing the buy price point for me.

OK I understand, yes maybe lots of people are getting out.

However I'm making a technical point, the market cap can drop or rise without a single dollar entering or leaving the market. The only thing that defines market cap is the price that people are willing to transact at.

Only because the market follows bitcoin

Marketcap is supply × price so it will show you how well something is doing

The price rises based on money put into the coin. Not like the price rises out of thin air or can be subjectively manipulated; its an exchange. E.g. $ to btc (ltc or eth), btc (eth, ltc) to alt

The market price is the bid and ask, which can be adjusted without a single market transaction.

People think that the market cap is the amount of money people have poured into bitcoin - it's not.

Multiply supply × price and see where that gets you

Again, not like price would be fluctuating if 0 money entered the market

There are 10 coins
9 long term holders.
I own the last coin I want to sell at 10$.
News comes out, it's positive, I will now only sell at $20.
The market cap has doubled, and not a single transaction has occurred.

yeah I know misc been talking about it for a while. money is locked on bittrex atm.
You as a holder cant dictate price. Again, not like you can arbitrarily decide what price you want to sell; its based on the money coming in. So a person coming in and who wants to spend 20 dollars will dictate the price for you. They can either buy a lot or a little and you decide to sell

Youd only have 20 if someone came in and bought whatever amount necessary for that.youre still talking about supply and price

Whats interesting. And im not really sure how its decided.. Is when these coins first sell by the dev teams. How they dictate the price originally. I guess they can arbitrarily decide how much their coin will originally sell for
