In this example the only reason the price would rise is, even if its as you said - there was an expectation the price would rise - is if someone paid more for it. In which case, the marketcap would rise.
People would expect it to be worth more so in anticipation spend more to acquire more of it.
Not like the price would rise in anticipation; its because an actual transaction occured where someone overpaid increasing the price.
Throughout all of this.. What is your point. Price is more important than marketcap? you seem to argue price is adjusted through an arbitrary means.
Im not too tired of talking about it but im slightly annoyed

Yes arbitrary adjustments to the the bids, or the askcanaffect price. That's why the price gapped in the attached file.

Also, never use hitbtc. I had a reddit post that stated hitbtc ceo changed and the new one has been caught doing scammy chit. Now i cant seem to find that post
But i had 500 free tron on hitbtc i cant get out. I had like 30 edo and tried to sell all of them only to have 8 locked up unable to sell. Which was 25 bucks at the time and is now around 40.
Plus, when i went to go transfer my edo they charged me a 12 dollar fee to transfer. My ltc is still stuck there, etc.
It fukin sucks azz if anybody is not aware

In your previous example this is what you insinuate, in your last example arbitrary is somewhat defined on bids vs. Asks which is sure to be somewhat more rational
I appreciate actual discussion so its whatever

And the other case...
If millions of people flood the market with billions of dollars, and the buyers are willing to buy for $13k BTC, the marketcap won't move at all....even though there are tons of money coming in.

In crypto it's more complicated because value can also appear out of thin air (i.e. BTG, BCH, controversial Tether etc.)
Coinmarketcap uses an aggregated price from all exchanges the coin is traded on.

There are multiple definitions for price: highest bid, lowest ask, or the mid point between those.
I think most charts people see are bid charts but you can get mid, or ask charts too. Most market caps are calculated using the mid price, though equally you can calculate it using bid, ask as well. I'm not sure there is a right answer.

Man ive been posting my predictions in this thread all week and for some reason my potfolio has gone up 88% but if i held on that extra day or two with the coins i chose i would be +240ish %. God damn it!
edit - for anyone wondering if you go back this week i had XLM/LRC/ADA/POE all for the reason they had sub 100m market cap, low traded volume and were expected to have a boom. I only sold off most of my stuff when i hit +30ish gains since the price of BTC would drop and their value increase so i made double the sats. Shame now i want to buy into a coin or two but since BTC is so low i would be overpaying in a sense with too many sats.

I fail to see a way in which price would change without a change in marketcap
Only way i see that is if btc moves a lot while one alt has ZERO money enter into it
Idk if hes talking about marketcaps of a specific alt coin. Total marketcap, etc.
Total marketcap cant be faked. A coin having zero interaction and changing in price CAN happen but only because btc - remember btc props everything else up in this space..

So I'm starting to realize that pretty much all coins will have their day, and to just stay in until they do.
I bought 1000 shares of POE when it was .035 cents, and sold it before it just mooned to get into a ICO.

Just my opinion, but I think 2018 will be the year of the alts. Btc will stagnate below $20k, it's weaknesses have been exposed and they are weaknesses that will only get worse with expansion/scaling, it would be neigh unusable at $50k a coin let alone $100K+. The devs/community will continue to infight and bicker about the solutions and nothing will get done.
Meanwhile ripple will be the normie/mainstream inlet to the alts and new money will flow into them instead of btc. People will get more educated on the crypto market with time and will be looking for the next btc/ripple before they take off.
Then there's the fairX exchange that's supposedly coming (nonewgainz awared us on it and stellar/I-B-M earlier itt) that'll make U.S purchases of alts via fiat easy. If that comes to fruition there will be a huge influx of liquidity, biggest issue right now is how annoying/difficult it is to invest in these fuking cryptos for the average person.
