I hated San Francisco. Its a dirty city with an odd odor in the air and chilly weather year round. SF in the summer time is the equivalent of where I live in the winter time (Temperature wise). What's kind of funny is there are people who live on welfare in section 8 housing that have nicer places that are more double that size here.




I'd rather own a house 10 times nicer (and larger 3 bed 2 bath + 2 car garage) then that for less then half of the price monthly on the mortgage/escrow. That's one of my major beefs with California and places with an equivalent cost of living. I'd need to earn over 500K per year to live comparable to how I live here. My house and yard in California would cost millions.


Obviously California has its perks but you need to make a chit ton of money to enjoy life there.

love the bay area. don't really care about rent because I'm not poor , was an initial shock when I lived on the east coast and went from $700 rent to $3k rent lol but its whatever. Majority of the best big companies to work for have offices in the area so dont see myself leaving

it is an enjoyable place and I'm married but we arent starting a family. I'm not saying SF is GOAT I'm saying its enjoyable like the majority of US cities. People love to hate on SF/LA/NY for whatever reasons they care to make up to feel better about themselves

I'm not hating on any other places. I didn't even think I was particularly hating on SF besides my own personal opinion in that it's maybe the only city I wouldn't want to work out of. The entire tech culture there seems to be despicable based on countless first-hand accounts and articles, and that's just on top of the ridiculous housing costs that either force you to give up any privacy and share rooms with other's, or live so far away that you're looking at a miserable commute. Won't comment on the work/life balance as I believe that's up to each individual company, but many complaints stem from the fact there's so much competition there now that a proper balance isn't achievable.

What you get is a great network, and a choice of many solid companies. But with many companies having branches elsewhere now, and other cities growing their tech hubs with more reasonable prices and minimal stress, it's hard to consider SF once you get past the pursuit of playing a popularity contest like so many new grads are solely after.

Santa Cruz breh checking in, I visit SF every 1-2 months for the dining and maybe to catch a game. Would hate to live there but nice for a weekend.
