I wish that were the case. California is 9th in median household income but 3rd (by a LONG stretch to the next state) in average home sale price. I believe the average house in the US goes for 180-200k, average in CA is 450k. CA median income 64k, national median is 55k.

yeah its not that uncommon for places to be rent controlled, mine is too but I am moving to a bigger apartment this year... I look forward to the increase in rent. Need me a home office and a space for my doggo to move around

My major was in Finance/marketing so it had nothing to do with the job lol

but I designed and sold an app in college and had put together a pretty solid portfolio, so I got recruited for the position.

Hated my major in college and knew I didn't want to go into finance so taught myself the skills to go into a different field.

Sounds like SoCal. Here, the low rents are $1400-$1800 for 600-800 sq ft.

To get to the good neighborhoods you need to pay upper teens to lower/mid 2s. Space remains the same.

I've got a degree in cognitive science with minimal hci experience but haven't had much luck applying to those jobs tbh. Was just wondering how you got it which sounds like it was all off your portfolio. Ironically I too have a finance degree as well, lmao.

but honestly having something visual you can show, whether it be previous work or a representation of your track record, was what changed the game in my application.

it went from aggressively trying to get interviews, to being recruited. Also Indeed has a section on your profile for additional info/ work samples- definitely put a lot of stuff in there. A lot of the people I spoke to said they really liked my writing in the additional info section, which was basically explaining why resumes suck to accurately represent a candidate.

Yessir, located in the city. Tech sales always has a large upside though. I always recommend to people that aren’t sure what they want to do, but know they want high income potential.

Yeah I honestly don't have much to "show" which I know is the problem. My skills/connection to these positions is largely based on the fact I have a background with eye-tracking technology. But I haven't really designed anything using it so that's why I have nothing to show them like a portfolio type deal like you did.

I've even tried for intern positions and still can't get jack sh*t.

Sales will always be lucrative as long as humanity doesn’t collapse. New tech comes out that improves productivity of a business, they need the product or service. Simple as that. Think cloud services, the current big thing. Everyone from enterprise level to government to small biz have use for cloud services which means huge opportunities.
