Look man I'm not downplaying the idea, I believe it's smart to take things like that into consideration.

I also live in Chicago and I know if I wanna live 72 hours the most important thing is being dressed properly, like layers of quality thermals, and a good pair of boots, a good down coat, etc.

Yes a bug out bag is a good idea, surviving without food for 72 hours is a piece of cake TBH, probably even more important IMO is having your area scouted out for good places to go.

My BOB is a AR-15 and a dozen 30 round mags. .45 in case things need to get personal.

But I do have stuff out in my car if I got stuck somewhere in the wilderness.

Have a backpack with: a small blanket, camping knife, lighter, extra lighter fluids (need to get matches too since lighters break), rope, some water, half a dozen protein bars, map of LA (with route outta here already marked), first aid kit, and a flash light.

Going to look through this thread to see if I should have anything else.

Did I claim otherwise? Personally, I think some cals in a BOB is a good idea, but it's far from the most important thing. There's a variety of considerations to what should go onto such a thing, and some times the best move is bug in, as in stay where you are. Simply having those things you may need in a singe easy to find place, is also a good idea.

BOB will have stuff in general they should all contain, say such as a first aid kit, flashlight, water, etc and things that are more specific to say areas you live and challenges you may face, how much weight you can/want to, carry, and so forth. Here's what FEMA recommends:

No worries, 4 life straw/filter, couple mres, pedialyte packs, 2 IV Bags, e-blankets, matches, lighter, 9MM w/7 mags, FA kit, clothes, wipes, $500 cash. Kind of simple cause car has a box and will depend if kiddos are with me if so then other bag will be taken.

I dont have a bug out bag because i am not going anywhere. Why would i? I live in san Diego so maybe an earthquake my wreck my place. Chances are, it would only damage the place but it would still be habitable.

I have food plus I have a knife and a gun so basically, although they dont know it, the neighbors food is going to mine as well. Pretty much the same with their women and pets.

I can ive in a crippled house much simpler than I could wandering the streets.

Nice. Granted, in that situation I'd have just driven over to the nearest hotel with available rooms and had a meal at a restaurant. Though I can understand the thrill of grabbing your BOB. Then spending the night in your SUV in some dark/lonely parking lot pretending the sky is falling.

Recommend to those who take this srs a 8,000-10,000 mAh lith ion rechargable battery with cable and have all your electronics run 5-12v. Like smart phone and torches. AND don't fkn forget that usb cable.

I've done a 1 week survival. Like tying up a branch of a tree with plastic and collecting the water in the morning. Drinking dirty ass water with purification tablets is disgusting. Better off using some charcoal filter.

Also change out the water. When it stays for more than a month it starts to turn. You can still drink it, but it makes you want to puke.

Get rid of any protein bars with sugar. Just makes you thirsty with the sugar. They are light and maintain your gainz.

I have stuff in basement for my family in case of emergency. Like losing power for days, tornado comes through, bad snowstorm. But it's more like water, candles, lighters, canned and dried foods, etc... I have no weapons

I open it and it's a cop to tells me there was a gas pipe breach a few blocks over due to mistake during construction and I had to evacuate now. Like right now. I opened the closet door, grabbed my BOB and was out. He said they'd alert people when it was safe. Would that hours, days, more? I had no idea. Alert me how? I had no idea.

I ended up spending the night in may SUV, and was very happy I had that BOB. Luckily, no massive explosion that took out my house. I didn't need much from it other than some water and an MRP I had in it, but it was nice to know had things been worse, I would likely be fine. Personally, unless forced to, no interest in shelters with all the others who made zero preparations for themselves and their family to survive even basic short term emergencies
