Happens to me often, just means they aren't interested in you. Looks only get you so far, only to get a foot in the door.

As for your aunts and sisters, they're probably busy and don't see a point to make you the priority. If it's not urgent I don't text my family back right away. I also have a bad habit of looking/reading the message, but I'm doing something and I forget to respond for a few hours, sometimes a day.

In terms of online dating, I actually did a test to see how it is for girls on websites like Plenty of Fish and the result was pretty interesting and eye opening. To put it bluntly, it's because they can be choosy. So many guys hit them up on these sites with the same tired and boring intro messages like "Hi" or "Sup" or anything non-engaging like that and it can start to get boring seeing nothing but those and because a lot of guys will send messages like that by the 50s-100s, the girl can afford to be picky because the guys do all the approaching.

The best way to stand out is make your message more personalized and actually engage with the girl other than a "Sup" or "hi".

Dealing with this at the moment.

Met a chick the other night at a show and got her number. We've texted back and forth a few times, she seems interested (exclamation marks, emojis, all that sloot chit) and we're set to meet tomorrow night for drinks. However, she takes mad long to text back. I usually respond within 30 minutes to 4 hours (depending if I'm at work, gym studying, etc), but she'll easily go 2-8 hours.

I guess I'm just used to women fawning over me, but this one really is a 9/10 (misc standards - no pics, yet to get her last name). Can't imagine all the orbiters she has around her. Ugh.

Generally if someone likes you they won't take long to reply, however you can't expect someone to be that into you before you've really spent time together unless they've previously been crushing so the text game can start off slow sometimes.

As for women in general, it varies in my experience. Some girls would text back straight away, some would take a day, my mum takes forever but that's because she hardly ever checks her phone (why even have a mobile ffs?)

Also, a lot of the time I will see a message read it and then forget to get back to it, easy done. However if i'm crushing on a girl then I wouldn't forget to get back to it however I'm not a fan of instantly replying either, give the conversation a little room to breathe in my opinion.
