How did none of them improvise a shank in all this time? I can almost guarantee they had at least as much to work with as inmates. I'd imagine they were at least somewhat feral. Self preservation has to kick in at some point, doesn't it? None of them found anything they could break a window with? Household walls aren't prison walls.

Even if the rooms they were kept in were completely bare: Break wall, rip out pipe or wire. Best case, they need to call someone to fix it and you make sure they hear you.. Option 2: Use said pipe to beat parents, free siblings and escape.

They were a little slow and I'm sure they still loved their parents. How would they know their world was so strange? Maybe they thought that's normal.

The cruel California couple accused of imprisoning and starving their 13 children were dogged by years of debt — but that didn’t stop the dad from clinging to his brand-new muscle car when the couple filed for bankruptcy in 2011.

David and Lousie Turpin, who are accused of chaining up some of their 13 kids inside a dark and dirty suburban home, listed a total $150,000 in assets and $240,000 in liabilities when they sought bankruptcy protection.

But despite drowning in bills, David fought to keep his precious 2010 Ford Mustang. When the judge asked him how he was still making payments on the vehicle — one of three cars the family owned — the dad replied, “We started using coupons and being more conservative in our spending.” He also said the couple found “better coverage on medical insurance and better rate on auto insurance,” according to court papers.

The judge eventually ruled that keeping the sports car “was not in the best interest of the debtor,” filings show.

You are taking things that are common knowledge to the general public, but likely not for these kids.

For example: How would they even know there are pipes in the walls? How do they know what is being done to them isn't what is being done in every other house? They didn't even know what a cop was, so how would they know any of the stuff you mention?

Add onto that I am sure they "love" their parents, whatever distorted view that shapes into as love for them.

I disagree. It's because society is so lenient and understanding that people don't fear any repercussions. If we instituted torture as punishment, you would see a drop in crime. Some prisoners live a better life than free people.
