What's crazy is we basically know it but:

1. It kills very slowly, not like a bullet to the head, most people don't believe it's "happening" until it's too late.

2. It would be unethical and too difficult to subject people to say a "sugar heavy diet" for a few decades.

if I limitedaddedsugar to 10% of my caloric intake for the day, would it be okay? or just eliminate it all together? I do add semi-sweet choc chips to my oats but only a handful, doesn't make up the majority of my diet....

addicted to sugar crew

tbh, I think if you lift and are physically active then there's nothing wrong with sugar, since it gets utilized efficiently (into muscles/liver etc).

Fruit depends but it will eventually kill you as well.

Difference is fruit at least has fiber, vitamins and minerals, all of which are needed to process food.

Avoid added sugar like the plague.

Think about something like fruit juice.

A glass of apple juice is what? Maybe 6-7 apples worth of juice, minus all of that fiber.

It'll kill your liver.

Way back I went through a few months period where I would have 1 can of soda every day, then sometimes 2 or 3. One week I forgot to buy a 24 pack, and I could feel the withdraw and craving. That's when I went "Nope". Only water and homemade juice crew - yes there is sugar there but it's not a Coke. Once again, it's a balance. Sometimes you want that sugary hit but you control the amounts.

There's no reason to avoid eating fruit daily in moderation.

The liver can generally handle approximately 50 grams of fructose or so before you start to see conversion to triglycerides or other negatives (when you divide the studies up into those that find problems versus those that don’t, 50 g/day is about where the cutoff occurs). While that intake level might be easily achievable by someone consuming a lot of sugary soda, given taht an average piece of fruit is roughly 7% fructose (e.g. 7 grams fructose per 100 grams of fruit), well..that’s a lot of fruit (~7 average pieces per day).

I can't be bothered to look for it now, but I feel like I read the only way to combat high sugar intake is HIIT if you're using exercise as a buffer. I'm sure heavy volume w/little rest will be also sufficient but tread warily.

TFW addicted to chocolate as well.

agree 100% OP...The obesity, diabetes, inflammation, etc, etc statistics would seem to agree

I cut out all form of sugar (with the exception of sugar combined with fiber - ie fruit) a year ago.

The improvements I've seen...

Significant and constant back pain gone
Significant weight loss
Improved memory
Improved complexion

For starters most people can just eliminate sugary drinks and that would be huge for them. Don't drink sugar at all, that includes natural juices etc.

It is not good but there is another bitter truth, we like processed foods.

I work with food manufacturers and my bro in law is an FDA consultation for a large grain producer; we are pigs in the US and it’ll never change.

4% of the population care about this chit and the rest are indifferent or don’t care at all. General Mills took feedback from a few customers that they wanted “more organic, natural components so they changed their formula for Trix cereal. It changed the flavor and color of the product and the sales plummeted in weeks...they switched it back to the processed, sugary chit and sales went right back to normal.

Food manufacturers give us what we want...not what “they cram down our throats”...it’s about education and personal choice and many don’t want to accept that.

I hate the taste of sweet drinks. The body must naturally know and be repelling it. I don't get how ppl can add sugar to their coffees, teas etc and not care or realise how it effects their fat. Such a simple thing to cut out.
