I watched the 1st episode and was disappointed honestly. Hopefully it gets better because there wasn't much of a plot. Just some tired concepts that you see in other sci fi like the Matrix and Black Mirror.

First two episodes were trash. Literally no interesting characters. No interesting scenarios that haven't been done thousands of times already. Poor, on the nose dialogue.

They tried when it comes to world building but it just feels like a cheap version of the new Blade Runner movie.

Didn't get a chance to finish the book before it released but like 1/2 through it. Good stuff, I'll watch the show when I'm done with the book.

I read the first book, i thought it was trash. Finished the whole book because of the reviews... Hopefully the series will be better, but personally I thought the book was all over the place and pretty boring.

Good show, looking forward to second season if they go down that route (although ending it with the first season can also work for me).

Glad they went a bit extra and made it something other than PG, or PG-13.

Would love to see increased production value on netflix shows for full immersive atmosphere, although this was much better than their cookie-cutter half-assed attempts of low production quality in other shows.

The show is slow and the characters are hard to care about.

I read the books and liked them, but this show lacks pace and explanation of the plot.

I already know the plot, but there's something boring about the show where I find myself getting distracted, reading the web, etc then I'm like, oh, the show, and I've missed nothing.

Side Note:

How the f@ck are women crying about harassment in showbiz when like most of the women in this show are completely naked with labia showing sometimes?

I would assume this would lead to showbiz males wanting to have sex with you.

We live in some of the stupidest times ever.

Watched 8 episodes so far and I'd say it's fairly entertaining and worth a watch. It's visually appealing for a TV show and some of the ideas are quite interesting. There are a couple notable issues though.

- The acting is generally mediocre. Not a single performance stands out.
- The writing fluctuates between mediocre, cheesey, and flat out bad.

Loved the guy as Mark Antony in Rome, but I'm not impressed here, though the quality of the writing certainly isn't helping him.

I wondered about this. Only seen the first two episodes. The books are first person so the main character "knows" the world and how it works. When you move that to a TV show some of the world building was turned into dialogue - it's tough because it usually ends up being awkward, on the nose explanation of what's happening.

Like in the first episode the people who were just resleeved watching a demonstration of how their stack works - like no chit, I know how it works, it's been in my head since I was one.

It's a little hard to set up those ideas in a way that doesn't come across awkward. Hopefully it dies down after they're done setting the world up.

Really enjoyed the first two eps.

most swedes/norwegians lack personality so it doesn't come as a surprise to me.

Yes, Mads Minckelson, or whatever, has a similar quality. However, his face looks more bizarre than this guy, so there's that.

same. if the agenda was to be pro trump, they'd be just that. it just shows how most people are fake and easily swayed for money. if they see possibilities in acting a certain way, they'll become that person.

all the republican actors have their shows canceled or get blacklisted.

I don't see much difference between democrats and republicans when they're rich. You mean to tell me that rich showbiz people don't try to get out of taxes and whatnot?

Showbiz people are for drugs, whores, perverted sex, etc just like Royalty was is in England and France. They aren't "communists" who want to eliminate poverty and include workers in decision making, they're people who support perversion.

Whatever the case, they're all the same and it's bizarrely. It's like high school level thinking to destroy someone, who is much the same as you, for saying they belong to some political group.

The only parts of this show I find interesting are the parts where Takeshi goes off or where he is investigating Laurens' death. (Might be minor spoilers below, you've been warned).

I think part of the problem is this show does a very poor job of showing instead of telling. There's A LOT of exposition. For example, Laurens' richness is stated so many times in the first episode that I thought that was all there was to his character. "Yes I got this book, it's worth more than anything else I have." "Oh, did you see my state of the art telescope that's worth more than anything else I have." "Btw, I can upgrade your sleeve and it costs more than anything else I have." "I can't die because I have this upload link that no one else can afford... and costs more than anything else I have." It's exhausting and boring and it's done for everything from the tech to the character's lives.

I'm also having a lot of problems with the characters and their relationships. I'm not sure if it's an acting issue or writing issue or maybe both, but I don't buy for a second any of the romances (with the exception of Miriam wanting to bang Takeshi for the first time because of all the untapped test flowing through a new sleeve + Myriam's own drug she excretes, nice touch and totally believable). I think the black marine is out of place and his relationship with his daughter is very unrealistic. The leader of the Envoys, I forget her name, is horribly done, and I cringe at almost every single one of Takeshi's flashbacks involving her. So many of the scenes with Laurens' lawyer are unnecessary and serve no purpose. Ortega isn't a very good actress and I actually struggle to believe that she is a cop. Same with her partner.

I do like the AI hotel guy, and I relate to him more than any of the human characters, oddly enough. There are times when I like Takeshi, but his character is so bipolar that it's jarring.

Idk what I'd rate it yet. I'll reserve judgment until I completely finish it, but as of now, I think the bad parts are overshadowing the parts that are good.
