I rented in my mid twenties and then bought a home.
I am moving to Sacramento thia July and me and my fiance just locked in a 3bedroom luxury apartment for over 2k a month.
Not super excited about renting again but we plan on 1yr. We will be looking for a house as soon as we get out there.

The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

Edit: it is a brand new buildout so apparently there rates are really attractive rn to fill the units and some time in the future they will go up. We will be gone at a year regardless.

wife and I pay 2k monthly for a beautiful 1 bedroom apartment on long island..
brb everything is brand new
brb something broke? call landlord
brb clubhouse w/ BBQs, bocci courts, pool table, fire place, free coffee, cardio, and pool that I don't have to maintain
brb can up and move whenever tf we want without worrying about selling a house.
brb chill neighbors w/ puppers all over the place
brb can walk to town, get drunk, and not worry about getting back.
brb 10 minutes from my job
brb living in a highly desirable geographical area where houses down the street are around 1 million.
Since we both have grown up jobs, we are able to save plenty of money. I will buy a house one of these days, but renting does have its benefits.

Very few people even in their 30s cant afford homes in desirable areas. An average home in/near popular cities is pushing $1million. Not many young people are willing to settle down long term in one area just because they can afford to if it’s not a great location
That being said, if you’re married and planning to have kids you better start looking into home ownership. Just lmao at raising a kid in an apartment complex

a house is better if you don't lose your ass on it. bank still takin their vig though, and anytime some shiit break it's on you, and you are also tied down to your investment, you can't just bounce.
a house is only a good investment if the market trends up. at pure face value the wood is rotting before your eyes, which makes it a liability.

"700$/month for studios, 1400$+ for a 2 bed apartment"
Lol, I'd gladly pay $1400 for a 2 bedroom apartment
"micro studios" in seattle are $1100

Houses are all like 1-2M+ in my area, for even a condo to be 300k I'd need to move 30+ minutes away.
I'd take the 1k/rent, and walk two minutes to work than the 1-2h commute daily .
