The U.S. has done some great, amazing things - but the people who did those things do not correlate to the general populace of America. You can't take credit for Oppenheimer's (a German immigrant by the way) work, extend it to all of America and use it as a tool for national pride.

Someone might like Hollywood movies but dislike American gun culture.
If we compare popular music and movies, noone in his right mind would argue that Germany can keep up with America.
If we talk about classic architecture or literatre it looks quite different though.

Germany & Germans on average are higher level than your average American. That goes for most of Europe.
However, USA, in the rare case that you make it (very hard these days), and if you live in the right place, can be amazing.
Both countries are rapidly going down the drain though. USA has insane inequalities and the skill gap is widening, they are not producing the tools needed for a future economy (this is why Trump is talking so much about copying the German apprenticeship scheme).
Germany will go down the drain if they dont fix some key problems rapidly: Vast majority of the population is old and above 40. They just dont have enough people to cover the pensions of all the boomer generation that will soon retire (though they are planning to make people work until 70, if they can implement it). This is the non-public reason why Merkel allowed so many migrants to come into Germany, and why she incited that migrant wave to begin with. In the end, immigration is all about supporting Capitalism, Marx said it all in his manifesto.
What irks me the most though are uneducated Americans who think their country is #1, what I call the "conservative mindset" (common on here), when in fact their situation is getting worse and all indicators (education levels, crime, etc) are abysmal. In this many on the left wing of America actually are more critically thinking than their conservative counterparts. For instance, healthcare overhaul is absolutely needed, yet a good part of conservatives are dumbly against reform. Politics are also insanely polarized and it seems the retards are in charge.
Both countries would really benefit from learning from one another. Especially America from Germany, but there is still that cultural chauvinist attitude that makes people not even learn another language, in the USA. It retards progress.

There are many other examples of this e.g. Syria, Vietnam and I'm sure there will be more in the future (North Korea).
This is because the U.S. has always had it's own interests at heart during these invasions. They either wanted to secure territory for a military base, obtain natural resources, exert pressure on other countries to prevent nuclear proliferation or prevent economic dominance or the rise of communist ideology etc.
For example. China is surrounded on all sides by military bases in Pakistan, Afghanistan, India etc. The U.S. opposes South+North Korea diplomatic relations because it's bad for their anti-nuclear policies which is why they threw a hissy fit when Kim Jong Un's sister went to SK to smooth things over.

same with education. there is lots of money (worldwide) in dishing out useless diplomas; it's not that lucrative for the educational system to say "maybe 6 years of schooling isn't for everyone". that's 200+ per student lost. with government enforcing collection, it's a big win.
skilled trades are not sexy enough in present day America; vast majority of skilled tradesmen are hired by small business owners who cannot spend money on influencing the crowds into believing their job is sexy.

If a number of European countries can do it with maybe 15% of the wealth America produces, then what the F is happening here? On the other hand, USA is great at feeding its massive military industrial complex, and bailing out investment banks when they fail. I just think there is a massive crony-corruption problem, and worst of all the population is uneducated about the topics, led into useless partisanship, and really the country will be in trouble if it doesn't reform very quick. I do hope Trump proves all the doubters wrong and actually implements some reforms though.
Personally, I think progressives, if they would stop (for the love of God) always inciting and pushing the crazy trends (LGBT, transexuals, etc) that alienate middle America, would truly have the best program for America. A guy like Bernie Sanders actually made sense, if he didn't bow down to terrorists like BLM which should have not a single second of media time. So instead you got the lesser option (Trump), because people were just outraged.
I dont know, Im just speaking about all these trends because they scare me. The political situation in the US seems very volatile. Im not sure how the next elections will go.

Yet their government isn't capable of getting its **** together and invest in solid infrastructure, healthcare, lower cost education, etc? Not to mention the US debt which is monumental. There is literally no fiscal responsibility.

They just dont have enough people to cover the pensions of all the boomer generation that will soon retire (though they are planning to make people work until 70, if they can implement it). This is the non-public reason why Merkel allowed so many migrants to come into Germany, and why she incited that migrant wave to begin with.

Definitely mirin German engineering though. Considering how tiny the country is they have the finest automotive companies in the world along with Japan (another tiny country with an impressive economy).
