Plenty of nonpeated Scotch on the market too. I enjoy Scotch the most out of any spirit. I just think there are much greater variations than what we see with bourbon.

1. Officially ready for upcoming bachelor party for my brother

2. Picked these up today. Ended up the Russell's Single Barrel wasthe very last bottle at my supermarket, had been discontinued, and there was no tag on the shelf. They tried for like 15 minutes to ring it up at the register but apparently they didn't even have a stock number assigned to it.

Manager's response: Guess it's free for buying everything else.

So, so much win in this picture. Curious how you like that Russell's Rye!

Picked up a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 today, not a huge fan. For only $7 more I could've picked up a bottle of Russell's 10yr or EWSB.

It's delicious, srs. Tons of different flavors that come out and it has some spice but feels like it is almost hovering between being a high-rye but also kind of bourbon-y? Definitely quality.

Been wanting to try eagle rare for a while now, but don't think they have it up here anymore.

Only thing I've seen is the single barrel version ER, anyone try it?

Might need you to clarify here.. as far as I understand stand it, Eagle Rare has two offerings:

10 yr single barrel
17 year single barrell

Finding the 10 year isn't too hard where I live, I've never even seen a 17 year bottle available to buy.

Either way, delicious. The 10yr is a steal if you can find it. Hnnnggggg

I think he means the 17 year. It's part of the antique collection like Stagg. They only make a 10 and 17.

Edit: PissWithin, every year Buffalo releases their "antique collection" - five unique bottlings that come out just the once a year. If you want to score ER17 you will need to wait for the 2018 collection. It's some of their best stuff and since it's single barrel, people with more willpower than me like to hold onto bottles for years and taste the different years bottlings like wine drinkers compare vintages.

All 5 Antiques have an MSRP of $90, though you almost always end up paying more. Buy them if you see them, especially George T Stagg which has nearly as much hype as pappy. You could turn around and resell it for twice what you paid.

Don't get it confused with the Stagg Jr which is available year round. George T Stagg is the antique, like ER 17 is the Eagle Rare antique, and William Larue Weller is the Weller antique.

talking about the 10. The one I see in stores says "single barrel" on it and has a slightly different label than the pics shown in this thread. It still says 10 year though. Could just be the label is different in Canada maybe?

Informative and helpful as always. On spread (as always). Going to leave a list of "buy these on sight" with my wife since she spends a lot more time in the store than I do. Keep those eyes looking out.

Yeah, possibly just a labeling difference. For the price it's a great pickup and even a non-bourbon lover could enjoy it from my experience.

Haha, sounds like highschool/college. Nothing like some basic "eh, what the hell" every once in a while.

How do you brahs decide what to try/how do you stop yourselves from buying literally everything? I'm thinking I need to find a good bourbon bar in Indianapolis to set aside some fun money and just try some bourbons before I buy the whole shelf lmao

Never had it. I do like Jim Beam Apple on ice. Jim Beam is my normal mixer. $20 for a handle. Can't beat it imo.

Alright brosephs...

1. What is your ideal ratio of whiskey:coke? Like how many oz:fl oz? I've typically just eyeballed it and poured but wondering if someone else has a more scientific appreciation/method.

2. Tried and true or uniquely interesting cocktails using bourbon? Looking for something outside of the standard classics (or a twist on a classic)

Cheers

Ok. Whiskey coke is a "highball" cocktail - a two ingredient cocktail composed of a spirit and a mixer, maybe a garnish. Some highballs have fancy names but most are just called by the ingredients: whiskey and Coke, gin and tonic, vodka and soda.

A textbook highball is a 1:4 spirit:mixer. On a standard 1.5 oz shot that is 6 oz of mixer, or half a standard can.

I personally lean more towards three drinks off a can of
mixer, but that's the standard ratio.

Classic bourbon cocktail: Manhattan or old fashioned

Twist on a classic: Boulevardier (negroni but sub bourbon for the gin. Negronis are my favorite gin cocktail so I'm partial to this one too).

Unique cocktails for Bourbon: Revolver or Paper Plane. A revolver is easy to make. Paper plane will require buying at least two bottles you only use to make paper planes, but, gun to my head, that's my favorite "fancy" cocktail, better even than a Last Word.
Smooth Seas don't make Strong Sailors. Keep your head up.

The 10 year is really good for the price. Nice vanilla finish that really works well with it. You won't be disappointed

I can't remember which one of you bros recommended Benchmark 8, and I'm too lazy to search back - but good looking out!!!!

Just picked up a bottle for $8.49 and it's awesome. I know it's made by BT, but it sure tastes like 80% of the original Buffalo Trace. Sort of like a diet Buffalo Trace

Very much recommended!!
