So nobody here saw the Niger ambush video?

Pretty disturbing and sad.

The original IS video is pretty fuked. Watching the video and seeing them slowly realize how fuk'd they were and what they must have been thinking... feels. They put up a hell of a fight. Doesn't matter how badass you are, if you are outnumbered like that and flat, open terrain, that's it.

Pretty fukin sad. At the end you see the taliban cocksuckers come into the screen and pump the dead soldier's body with a few more rounds, then you see blood cover his camera. Gruesome and made me sick to my stomach knowing those were our soldiers out there.

TBH, if that area was carpet bombed immediately after, I would give 0 fuks.

That part is fuked up but honestly we do the same exact thing walking cross an objective. That's war.

For sure hard to watch though. But one of those things more people should see so they know the cost of war.

I don't really want to watch the video, sounds pretty gruesome in description :/
But oh well, as I understood it, American soldiers were killed in a country that isn't USA? Gruesome, but they do the same chit and worse to other countries and it's their problem invading a country that isn't theirs, again. They have no place being there and of course their opponents will retaliate, what else are they supposed to do. I thought some civilians were massacred at first which would be much harder to swallow

As usual it's the poor guys on the front-line following orders that pay the ultimate price. Desperately sad.

So you're too pussy to watch real news, but you don't mind making ill informed comments. They're not invading, they're there as support at the invitation of the Niger government as support against extremist insurgency.

They're Special Forces, they know what they signed up for. It's the most dangerous job in the military- going to chithole countries to train soldiers. But yeah, they shouldn't be there to begin with

Also OP that link you sent of the video is the propaganda video from ISIS with the dubbed screaming in it

If those guys didn't want to be there, they wouldn't have spent years training and becoming Green Berets. Put up a hell of a fight all things considered.

Who do you think they were fighting alongside? The government there. Against radicals who kill innocent civilians all the time, on purpose.

So ~50 v 3 odds when they have crew service weapons and you just have some measly 5.56 and still lasting a long time and killing ~20 guys isn't putting up a hell of a fight?

Can anyone confirm that running in a zig-zag manner is less effective than a straight dash when fleeing gun fire? (srs)

Woulda been doing cartwheels in the tumble weed if I was the guy with the camera tbh

not really surprised to see the strong bias ITT LOL
Strong bias? You're on an american website and we're talking about a video in which american soldiers are getting killed. wtf do you expect posters to do, celebrate?

Super dumbed down version: They were running because they were completely overwhelmed by enemy fire. In this case, you just want to get out of the "kill zone" as quickly as possible. Running in a "Straight line" still means you're probably not running completely perpendicular to the enemy firing line so it's still hitting a moving target. And with ~30-50 people shooting at you and that many bullets in the air, a zig zag probably wouldn't work anyways... that's a lot of bullets in the air headed your way. Just get the fuk out of dodge as fast as you can.

If anyone is interested you can watch "Chain of Command" episode 8. Follows the Special Forces group in Niger in the months prior to the ambush. Explains why American Special Forces units are there on the ground. Shows the human side to the soldiers on the ground. Shows how messed up that entire region is.
