RIP to the soldiers, and people are rightfully disgusted by this.

On the flip side, it is estimated that America has been responsible for over 20 million deaths since the end of the second world war, with a large percentage being innocent victims. American citizens openly stating a lot of these wars are motivated by financial gain, that doesn't stop the soldiers following out orders.

One of the terrorists may have been brought up in a town which has been destroyed by American bombs, there parents, brothers and sister dead... hearing how they were killed due to America wanting more oil.

It's sometimes difficult to distinguish between who is the terrorist and who is the freedom fighter.

Don't see what is so hard about understanding they are there to prevent ISIS from spreading its influence to other regions. The local population and government are inadequate to defend against them and request assistance. If the U.S. just sits back and let's them grow then they will grow in strength and be a more difficult problem to contend with.

In my opinion a few M249's could have repelled the attack and made them retreat. If anyone is unaware they took out almost half of the troops even though they were outnumbered.

Indeed. We can only guess what it would feel like, especially at the point when you know it's the end. I don't watch these kinds of videos anymore though - I used to for awhile. It definitely made me complain a lot less IRL about trivial matters.

No e-warrior. Can someone explain to me why they didn't all just jump in the car and speed away? I know they said the car wasn't bulletproof but I'd rather take my chances driving off. Did they not realize how heavily outnumbered they were until it was too late or was their vehicle disabled? In one section of the video the vehicle was slowly rolling forward. Was it on its last legs at that point?

Or in that situation is it better just to stand and fight because driving away in an unarmored vehicle with that much firepower on you would cut you down?

Any military brahs help out here?

Negative. Flat, open terrain without much cover (cover, not concealment) would have left them just as fcked. Horrible spot to be in unless you're on a mountain top and have a lot of rocks/boulders covering you.

My guess is that the vehicle was probably leaking radiator fluid or was barely chugging along. Also, impossible to know what exactly was going on. Was another group nearby and they didn't want to leave without their guys? Very likely if any other teams were in the area. By the time they realized it was time to bounce, the vehicle was probably fcked.

Still impossible to know what the details of any of it are. Small unit tactics are a different kind of ballgame.

The military is not perfect. Civilians forget this. It's not like Hollywood. When you're stressed, panicking it's hard to be perfect or think logically. Perhaps they could've done many things differently and saved themselves, but in the heat of the moment their main mission is to stay alive. When I was freaked out, I made tons of mistakes out in the sandbox too but I'm only human. Training can only do so much.

I've been in a few full on contact moments. When I was with my boys in the 75th, everyone acted appropriately and wrecked the enemy. The last few times I've been nearby things popping off (IED's, machine gun fire, etc) there have been people who have had legit heart attacks, **** their pants, passed out, cried, hid, etc. This is the normal behavior for guys who are not well trained. Coming from the 75th Ranger regiment, it threw me for a loop when I saw how some people reacted to enemy contact. My mind had trouble wrapping around dudes ****ting themselves but such is life.

99% of the military is not special operations. Most of it is just normal people who wanted a way to go to college for free. That being said, even if you think you’re a hard motherfuker you never really know until you’re exposed to serious stress.

Good training, especially spec ops training, exposes you to crazy amounts of stress. The guys who make it through SFAS, BUD/S, etc, have been through so much chit in training thattheoreticallythey should be much more likely to keep it together when they start taking fire.

Pretty much. This is why elite forces have such difficult training. I worked with a couple of SOF guys once, in Niger, come to think of it, and they were telling me a little bit about their training. they have a term called stress inoculation. They put you in situations that are intentionally stressful and chaotic so your muscle memory learns how to respond. May explain why this small team was able to take out half of the much much larger force.

I've been in a few full on contact moments. When I was with my boys in the 75th, everyone acted appropriately and wrecked the enemy. The last few times I've been nearby things popping off (IED's, machine gun fire, etc) there have been people who have had legit heart attacks, **** their pants, passed out, cried, hid, etc. This is the normal behavior for guys who are not well trained. Coming from the 75th Ranger regiment, it threw me for a loop when I saw how some people reacted to enemy contact. My mind had trouble wrapping around dudes ****ting themselves but such is life.
Did you serve at the same time as John Lovell, Jack Murphy and Kris Paranto? I'm a fan of theirs.
