well former top flight pros turned analysts are split.

fwiw I noticed that English analysts and/or Strikers are far more slanted towards Ronaldo. Midfielders towards Messi, and continental europeans tend to be split.

This isn't as clear cut a comparison as comparing two center forwards, imo.

There's a good reason Messi scores less in the box: he's small. Ronaldo has that physical ability.

or I guess I should say, less headers, not sure about in-the-box goals overall.
Yeh a lot of it is also the positions messi picks up the ball, on the edge of the box in a kind of number 10 position. Ronaldo has typically been playing out wide which doesnt lend itself to scoring outside the box as much

In terms of long shot ability i dont think theres much in it. Messi is better from just outside but then wouldnt be capable of goals like Ronaldo’s v sporting for united

Ronaldo has proven himself in our league which helps i think, his playstyle also lends itself more to our style of football.

Just my honest, no flame opinion - I feel Messi is the better finisher and Ronaldo the better positional player. That's even considering what you said (which alot of Barca fans use to defend Messi) about Messi being locked in an attacking mid role when playing False 9. Ronaldo covers an insane amount of ground.

Ronaldo is the more complete player easily - so it makes sense that so many coaches would prefer him as their 1st player. I think the theory that Messi would be less effective in another league has some merit tbh, because midfielders in the prem play nothing like Barcelona's midfielders. He would still be best in the league...just not as effective. Based off my observations of him against English competition in the CL.

Always blows my mind when people consider Ronaldo better than Messi. All it takes is to watch one game of each to realize they are wrong.

Messi is the GOAT in the most important categories. Passing, dribbling and scoring. Scoring wise his rival is Ronaldo, Dribbling wise his rival is Maradona/Best, Passing wise is rivals are Xavi/Pirlo etc.

But he is a GOAT contender for ever one of those categories. Ronaldo is a good scorer, Messi is that and much more. Trophies-wise they are around the same i think, except Messi has more La Ligas, but trophies are not the end deciding factor anyway since its a team's sport, not an individual one.

Literally blows my mind how can people make this kind of threads after a Ronaldo's average header, which Cavani/Higuan/even Falcao score every weekend or so lol, but hey whatever.
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

People are just too black and white about it (like most things). Ronaldo, Fatnaldo, and Pele could all have more trophies than Messi and therefore be branded the better players - but based off what my eyes see on TV, Messi has more talent.

And then there's another player who I think was more talented than Messi - I consider Ronaldinho the most talented player of all time, but he'll never be in the GOAT discussion because he didn't have the staying power to get consistent accomplishments, despite the fact he's a FIFA World Player of the Year, Balon d'Or Winner, World Cup Champ, and Champions League Winner.

That's how I look at the game, anyways.

Yeah it's because you're a *******. Like I said before, the only people who think Ronaldo is better are Real Madrid fans, Man Utd fans, fangirls and *******s who have a crush on him.

Pele and Maradona and other Football legends and experts think Messi is better so anyone else's opinion, including OP's a nobody like yourself is invalid.

I like how you ignored all the bitter facts I said and just focused solely on CL goals. Having slightly more CL goals doesn't mean he has more goals against the big boys than Messi does. For all we know those goals were scored against trash teams in the group stages.

This, lol

Its not only the level of competition its the importance of the match. Cl knockout phase is football’s version of the playoffs, its a different game.

Messi is like peyton manning, numbers drop off in the biggest moments

Numbers drop off in the biggest moments? Did you forget what he did against Juventus in that CL final? And unlike Ronaldo he actually creates, assists and scores beautiful goals instead of easy TAP-INS. Do you suffer from memory loss? I've never met anyone as deluded as you, you're so deep in the rabbit hole its not even funny, how many wanks have you had over Ronaldo? Honest question.

And if Barcelona wins the treble this year and Madrid wins nothing what excuses are you gonna make? Or are you gonna stay silent? Well have fun living in your own little bubble I guess. Oh and once again keep ignoring all my questions and changing the subject. Peace.

Ronaldo has been considerably more prolific in the champions league, not only has he more all time goals and assists than messi in the biggest competitionhe has more goals since joining real madrid than messi has in all his time at barca. Thats despite messi having a 5 year headstart.

no single stat tells the story

the best one in general, is average points with and without player
could only find win percentage win and without
browsing around web, around year ago, 0 difference without and without ronaldo and 4% negative win percentage without messi

right now, would you want messi or ronaldo for your team

It's because Ronaldo is good looking and tall while Messi is goofy looking and short. 100% srs. If Ronaldo possessed Messi's skills he would be considered the GOAT unanimously. Also scoring is heavily favored by the general population in all sports so that gives an edge to Ronaldo.

Just look at the top 10 of any sport, no defensive players are even considered.

Messi is a playmaker that will pass, dribble and score on his own whilst Real’s playstyle and tactic revolves around assisting Ronaldo in order for him to shine as the great finisher he is.

As to who is objectively the best with the ball, Ronaldo doesn’t even come close to the skills of Messi
