Pretty sure it's done for the sake of making the environment seem "professional". My job is business casual, most people wear a blazer, and literally everyone makes less than $70k srs (low cost of living area). Although no one's as rich as they dress it makes everything seem more important . Kinda weird though cause you can't even tell the Dept VP from the interns.

Business clothes are so overdone ... pay people chit salary then make them spend a bunch of it to buy expensive clothes so they can make chit money

Surprise so many people are against wearing a suit. Personally I enjoy it, & my dress shirts are comfy. Wont deny I spent a bit more than average though to get something comfortable and still look good

I could wear tank top and nike shorts to work if i wanted. I dress a bit better than that but no way id be in a suit. My mind is valued a lot more than my appearance. Constantly asked what could be done to make us more comfortable.

I would not do it, I have also in the past to give up job interviews in which they asked me to introduce myself with trousers (not jeans) and shirt, in a couple of cases even jacket and tie

Well, I would agree if that's for experienced roles, but for most fresh college graduates you're looking at 50-70k/year at most (unless you're a first year analyst at an investment bank, ez 120-150k/year).

I like to dress formally though, but that's just me.

I'd fuking lol if someone told me to wear a business attire to a non-front office work. And even then, you see more and more bank tellers etc dress more casual. Obviously not hoodies and chit like that but nice pair of chinos and a polo/blazer. Unless I have a meeting with some upper management, I'll wear jeans and a t-shirt with some sneakers. Throw a blazer on it if I want to look more professional for whatever reason. lol at this "dress for a job you want" cope when you sit in a cubicle and sort documents, just lol
