100% agree with OP and everything he says about people who lift. They are definitely not right in the head.

Everyone on this planet is a nutcase in one way or another. Gym nuts, unless they are riding the bike, fortunately have a mental illness that benefits their health overall.

Nothing wrong about that though, srs. It's not like they are crippling issues, but bodybuilding does attract certain personality types.

Took me a while to figure it out. I thought everyone in the gym was healthy.

Thought only obese or anorexic were mentally ill but roiders are just as bad.

i dunno

i treat powerlifting as a sport like any other. no difference than people who spend 10+ hours a week playing golf, tennis or pickup ball

if you wanna be good at the sport...you gotta put in the practice and prep accordingly

It's usually the newbies that act like that.

Most of the old timers (been at my gym since 02'), are old school OJ sippin' chest/arm day everyday type.

My gym is more like an episode of Jersey Shore than a PL meet.

Some truth to this for me, but it was never regulated to training. For me it was sports.... but I started lifting for sports and just stuck with it as and stopped playing everything as I have been getting older.

But yeah, everyone is messed up. We just choose to train because of whatever instead of gaming/tv/drinking/etc.

I agree op, but only as in the ones who are on cell-tech or the crazy bish who weights 5 stone , eats only carrots and is in the gym every 5 mins.

If you are on cell-tech and it isn't because of your job, then you have mental issues regarding your own body / self esteem.

The miscer who hung out with Frank Zane said similar. I can see some truth to this.

agreed, no matter how much anyone wants to deny that you don't risk going to jail and permanently destroying your endocrine system with some chit made in a dudes tub unless you got some issues, that said if you wanna do it that's your decision, doesn't affect anyone but them so who cares. i'll always think the most pathetic guys in gyms are the ones who openly accuse and whine about the bologna eaters

I have an addictive and/or obsessive personality. I choose to use the gym as a healthy outlet for it, but I could have just as easily fell into more destructive versions of wanting to do the same thing over and over again for years on end. I'm so bad that I can put on a song at the beginning of my workout, and just loop it over and over again for the entire hour.

So yes, I agree with OP that I'm not right in the head. But I'm using bodybuilding as a healthy release.

At the gym locations that i frequent only about .5-1% or less fall into the category that OP describes;and since 99% do NOT, it is really a non issue. People with mental health issues *walk among us everywhere*!
There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

Well if you enjoy lifting and nutrition: how is doing something that you love 10 hrs a week a mental problem?

How about that guy advancing career in lieu of his physical/mental health. brb hiking your stress and blood pressure > damaging your body > not seeing your children

There's non-lifters with aspergers too. Strong myopic focus of peace.

There is some truth to OP's thread. Think about how many autistic miscers exist on this forum alone. Yes, some are jacked but still have the confidence of a 12 year old obese boy.

There are lots of reasons why someone might choose to live a healthy/fitness related life. I genuinely feel a lot better/energized when I'm eating decent, am lean, and lift at least 3-4x per week. Another huge aspect for me is health/longevity.

In my opinion the people with mental issues are the obese and those that just let themselves go and just get fat/unhealthy in their 20s. I have a few friends in their late 40s to mid 50s that can still chit all over 95% of people in their 20s in terms of physique/health/energy. When I'm in my 50s I want to feel like I'm in my physical prime not like I'm dying.

People in my family typically live to mid 90s so when I hit 50 I'll only be about half-way through my life barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Hmm. Go to the gym to keep stress levels in check and trying to lose weight and get healthy. Don't see a problem with that, lol.

the only possible way i can do it is by doing basic workouts at home
