I agree and disagree. I think they want to pass whatever they can to take firearms away from the people. No stats they can choke up will support their BS narrative, so fear is the next best path. Its a tough one. Guns are ingrained into American culture, but the idea that it is so easy for a psycho to get hold of a gun capable of killing classroom of children within a minute is a little disconcerting.

I live in the Uk and I am envious about a lot of things that America has, but the average Joe owning a gun isn't one of them.

If you compare homicides state to state, New Hampshire and Maine have the lowest rates, and some of the loosest gun laws/highest ownership rates.

I don't know, because I literally have never heard of school children being killed in mass by a petrol/fire attack in the Uk.

I would imagine it would be more difficult to spend time pouring out petrol, barricading/locking all exits and then lighting it without anyone trying to stop you or run... as opposed to walking in and shooting.

Why pour it out? Why barricade anything? Just throw it on them. They can't get it off, and they'll be wearing clothes.

One of the issues you run into with international comparisons is that countries can be so dramatically different from each other, and it's hard to find meaningful comparisons. Why is the homicide rate lower in the Czech Republic, where you can own a semi auto rifle and a handgun than it is in the UK or Australia?

One of the great things about the US is that we can actually take a look at our nation's laws and see them across a spectrum.



If anything, looking at a map like that tells you that gun laws are a poor indicator of homicide rate in the US.

The answer is because guns are much more effective at killing people than running around pouring petrol, and it was a silly comparison to make.

Anyway I don't live in America it doesn't affect me, hopefully law abiding citizens can keep there guns and the mass shootings stop, it's a shame when a few ruin it for the many.

I'd say only 60% of americans own a home/land and since the top 10% of earners pay 70% of federal taxes, liberals would reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ee at the thought. But it makes zero sense why someone who lives 100% off the government should have an equal say in leadership (unless the person has a valid medical excuse and obesity is not an excuse. If you are disabled because you did it to yourself, then you should lose your right to vote)
