It seems like everyone ITT assumes he jumped into the enclosure to be a jackass. It says he's the park owner, wouldn't they have to enter the enclosure every now and then?
And let's be cereal....if your friend or family member jumped into the enclosure even out of stupidity, you're putting that lion down if you have the chance. Come on brahs.

You do realize that enclosures have separate feeding areas that lock the animal away from the rest of the space, right? Imagine putting the lion into that space and inspecting what he went for the first time.

Here, the lion had to be killed because of the man's poor judgement. Dumb person goofs -> innocent animal suffers. The dumb person still doesn'tdeserveto die, but he deserves it more than the lion.
I'm not even necessarily taking this position, I just don't think it was a fair comparison.

If a 5 year old child wandered into the lions den, and the lion was about to kill the child... should we let it be?
With your reasoning Dumb child goofs > innocent animal suffers. The dumb child doesn't deserve to die, but deserves it more than the lion

Let's go right to the extreme, would you allow a retarded adult man who wandered into the lions to get eaten by the lion, rather than shooting the lion?

As far as big cats go, lions (along with cheetahs) are considered the safest and most predictable. He had probably been in that enclosure hundreds of times without issue. There are thousands of lions who receive daily human interaction and have never hurt anyone. He took a risk and that lion paid the ultimate price, but clearly he's not some yahoo off the street who jumped in there.
This guy made these animals his life so he obviously cares a great deal about them. He will be haunted by this incident for the rest of his days. Chill out with the insults and wishing him death. You *******s sound like a bunch of bloodthirsty redditors, unable to grasp nuance.

However this is only the case if a lion comes into your care before the age of 2 to 3, and you socialize with them intensively on a day by day basis. If you do this successfully the lion(s) will trust you completely and consider you part of their pride. No matter what kind of posture you take (low on the ground, back turned etc.) they'll never attack. However, male lions from age 3 to 4 may attempt to challenge your authority and its important to be aware of this and remain dominant. Again, if you make it through this you wont have any issues anymore with the lion.
However a lion above that age, or if you failed to socialize with it in sufficient manner at a young age, will never trust you or consider you family. No matters how intensively you work with it, it might tolerate you, but it could also attack you at any given point. An adult lion will not accept any new humans. Even if it tolerates your presence, if you show weakness it will attack.
Judging by the video the man clearly does not trust the lion, and since the lion attacked him it's clear to say this lion has not been in his care from a young age. The fact that the man started running only triggered further prey response in the lion which lead to the attack. Had the man remained in position or even moved forward towards the lion an attack could perhaps been prevented, but by running he sealed his and the lions fate. With his experience he should have known better, or maybe he despite working with lions lacked the knowledge or thought it wasn't applicable to him and his situation was special. Whatever the case, the blame lies solely with this old man.

I understand he is the owner of the Park , However, WHAT THE HELL DID HE THINK WOULD HAPPEN?!?! As if the lion was going to be , “Oh it’s cool your the owner, what’s good bro?”
As if , owner of park could even think he could outrun a lion.
Owner of park should have thought this thru a lot better like seclude / isolate lion ...then investigate smell without the threat. Common sense goes along way.
RIP lion for doing “lion things”.

Sometimes people have a lapse in judgement, this guy was probably around wild life his entire life, and one day, for one moment, he made a bad judgement call, for a split second... or seconds... maybe he wasn't even thinking about it, then this happened
If he did sit down and think about it, obviously he would have done otherwise, he didn't, mistakes were made... i'm sure he regrets that fact, i'm sure he regrets the lion is dead... but i'm still shooting the lion all day long, because a man was careless for a moment... it is a shame the lion had to die, but letting a man die in this case is just not a good choice between these 2 ****ty choices that can be made

The man in the video is not retarded. He is a grown man of sound mind who is perfectly capable of coming to the conclusion that he should not walk into a lion enclosure when it is alert and 50 feet away from him.
As I said in my first post, I'm not even taking the 'fuk this guy' position. I'd probably kill the lion if someone I hated wandered in there. I just think you're being disingenuous in your analogies.

LOL misc gun to misc
Dude seemed happy to LDAR and probably wouldn't have wanted the lion to be put down either. It is what it is though. Human life comes first.
Marakele Predator Park was established in 2010 by Mike and Chrissy Hodge after they emigrated from the UK, according to its website.
They moved to South Africa in 1999 and started a lion conservation project in 2003 on a farm 30kms from Thabazimbi.
Dude has probably saved hundreds of lions in his life and has probably had to take many risks in his time. Should he have been reckless like this? No. Would I still shoot that lion? Absolutely. They moved to South Africa in 1999 and started a lion conservation project in 2003 on a farm 30kms from Thabazimbi.

Like a sociopath who has no sense of ethics could just say "Doesn't matter what choice we choose, fuk the old man, and fuk the lion", and well, it's not a false statement to say... but most of us follow a similar code of ethics, and if thought about enough, it's clear that the human in this situation should always get saved. No I would not. And someone could have a set of ethics where they value the life of lions over human life, regardless of situation, but I think those types of people are very rare, and, not people I'd want to be around... who knows what other crazy values they hold. And it's probably a case of people ITT just saying they wouldn't kill the lion to save the human, but in reality, they would save the human, but like being edgy or whatever. Or maybe they actually would not kill the lion to save the human in this case, but I think their minds could be changed if they really thought about it deeply.
