Sigh...
I guess since this is still grinding on - yeah, lot of hate for fat people here. One problem seems to be lumping together everything from super morbid obesity (pic at the start of the thread) to a woman carrying an extra 20 or 30 pounds after having kids because that is totally the same thing.
There is a strong correlation between adult obesity and childhood trauma (ACEs score) with sexual abuse being a real standout. I do think some is genetic/hormonal (no, not being morbidly obese usually, but maybe struggling to be very lean/just a little overweight). Some is surely parenting/food culture and environment. We have one industry promoting cheap low nutrition/high calorie density crap and another one selling weight loss pills/programs. Advertising works - that's why companies pay for it.
And there is/has been loads of bad information put out for the people that are trying to lose weight.
To lose weight/keep it off you have to really want it. Want it enough to put in the effort consistently even when you are tired, bored, hungry, busy, etc. It isn't easy.
Many people may have no real memory of what it is like to NOT be fat because they have been fat for so long. So they don't even have a real idea if it IS worth it. Or they may think that when they aren't fat everything else in their life will be better. Or that if they just get the weight off it will stay off.
I believe some people's bodies DO adapt harder and faster and they have to suffer more to get where they want to be. Might never be able to get/stay really lean. However that is a long way from being unable to do anything at all/make any improvement.

It doesn't happen over night, and I'm sure it's a combo of laziness, lack of self-control, a feeling that getting to a normal size is "impossible" and mental issues, all compounded by the fact that your average person knows absolutely nothing about diet and nutrition. Seriously, the things that we all see as painfully obvious and simple a lot of people are clueless about.
I work with a bunch of obese people and get to see some of the behaviors that contribute to why they are the way they are. Most of them sit at their desk for 10 hours a day eating chips and drinking soda, eating massive amounts of garbage for lunch and eating whatever snacks people bring in for the day (donuts are almost a daily thing). There's a gal that sits across from me who is probably 5'5" 220+lbs. Really nice girl and always talks to me about how she wants to lose weight and so I've kinda mentored her a bit, but man is it frustrating. She just doesn't have a clue about what she's eating and how much she's eating. She told me she wanted to try keto since a friend told her about it, so I spent probably 20 minutes giving her a very basic breakdown of things. Well every day she rolls in with a giant bag of almonds that she demolishes (easily 1000+ calories), but then adds in a giant serving of fruit and multiple yogurts which if she ever were in ketosis most definitely would knock her out. So I gently try to explain to her serving sizes, appropriate amount of calories for her to eat, and how the fruit and yogurt will knock her out of ketosis. Makes no difference, she does it day in and day out all while touting the fact that she's doing keto to people but is frustrated that she's making no progress. This, folks, is your average obese person's knowledge of things.

If someone has cut 50+ pounds before the proper way (not using some crash diet) it becomes very easy to recut when needed. You almost have to starve yourself to lose significant weight. It's not easy when you are looking at losing 50+ lbs. You can't just eat well 3-4 days a week and then binge on a pizza or some donuts. Chit is hard and takes a long time to lose significant weight

Give me any person, 90 days, an environment of my choosing, and i will guarantee they will lose whatever amount of weight they want. 90% chance they put it all back on and more after though.

No way to know unless I did it, but the end result is that my body adapts, and the weight returns. The only thing worse than no hope is false hope. Nothing like losing 50 pounds and thinking "This is it, I've fukcing got it this time!" only to have the same chit that happens every time happen again. I cannot sustain weight loss. It's random, but eventually I always plateau, then gain the weight back. Calories be damned, exercise be damned, the same thing happens every time.
I know someone that joined with a group of obese people with a weight loss pledge thing and most of them lost 40-60lbs in a year by going for a 45-60 minute walk each morning and by eating more sensible portions with their food. They didn't even go full retard on a diet. Instead of a big Mac with a large fry try a big mac without the top bun and a small fry. Etc. No crazy diet. No crazy exercise schemes. Just eat less and go for a walk every day. A little bit of willpower and making a little extra time each day.
I've had people tell me numerous times they are jealous of my physique, my metabolism, etc. I've been lifting/exercising 6-7 days per week for over 11 years. On top of that I track calories and make an attempt to be mindful of my calorie intake/expenditure for the day. Also I park as far as I can everywhere I go and get as much walking in as possible. I also weigh myself daily and make sure my weight doesn't fluctuate too much over the course of a week.
Its not genetics. Its effort.

People will play victim just like with other social issues and do about anything other than put in the work and self-discipline to turn themselves around. When a healthcare system starts getting more bogged down, when you see child abuse with fat little fuks running around with sugar sweet/drinks with their mum on an electric trolley then of course people will get mad. And so they should, people like that need to be fuking told the truth. But if you criticize them then the whole SJW squads comes down like pouring rain.
There's probably more hate from unfit people towards FIT/lean people. Some mum put up an article/photo of her slim body saying she still had to work and take care of her kids. A caption along the lines of "If I can do it, you can do it". This mum was BOMBARDED by viscous hate and all the excuses in the world. It's the same type of mentality and characteristics of many groups today. So now someone who's fit and looking how YOU SHOULD, is considered a fitness freak, unrealistic look, vain etc.
Just stop fatting. It's disgusting to look at, it's related to so many scientifically proven health issues and it affects a countries economy/work force. Maybe when business see people go back to a near zero-tolerance level they will stop having some 300lb whale in lingerie on TV with "Clothes for real women". Yeah you're real, a real whale.

If you are like the whiner in this post where everything out of your mouth is cope or an excuse to maintain your level of shoving fried chicken down your gullet, then have fun using your toilet paper on a stick to wipe yourself and constantly smelling like a mixture of very old meat and very new cheese

I honestly think it's mental illness/not knowing how to eat properly and probably a ton more factors. There are a lot of good posts in this thread that I agree with, but way too long to go back and multi quote.
My very best friend since the age of 13 is morbidly obese. She knows how to eat right and work out and has lost weight before, but then her mom and dad passed away within a year of each other and she's just put all the weight back on and then some. I have tried to get her to go back to her healthy eating and exercise. She has a stair master at her place and i tell her to just get on it for 5-10 min a day to start. She just won't do it. It's very frustrating to try to help someone when they ask for you to push them and then they won't do it. She's now having heart issues and it makes me so sad that she isn't taking care of her health for not only herself but her son as well. I'm afraid I'm going to lose my friend at a fairly young age.
It seems that people always have excuses as to why they can't eat right or get some exercise in. It's also true like EoR mentioned how there seems to be a lot of disdain coming from those who are overweight towards those of us who are fit. People are always trying to get me to have this sweet, that donut, this piece of pizza at work. It's just 1 piece/ 1 slice/ 1 donut! they say. lol I'm always honest that I try to stay strict during the week so I can have some treats on the weekend, to let people know you don't have to deprive yourself of all good food to lose weight/be fit. While a lot of people give me genuine compliments and admiration for being as consistent as I am, I also get some passive aggressive comments from others.
Instant loser, I think it's sad that you're giving up on yourself. I understand that you think it's pointless, but why not eat healthy and get some exercise to make sure you're healthy on the inside, even if it doesn't mean you'll lose a bunch of weight? Instead of McDonalds have some baked chicken, potato and veggies. Replace your processed foods with whole foods. You can still eat to the point of being full, just make it healthier choices.
ETA: I also get a lot of people telling me I should be a trainer/nutritionist. Honestly, I think that would be way too frustrating for me. To try to help someone get healthy and they just won't put in the work. I give huge props to those that can do it day in and day out and not throw up your hands in frustration.
