These kids not going to school and on the streets is the best. What can happen besides becoming a gang member and being a POS thug?

Do people actually do this? Seems like it would be more effort than it's actually worth. I dunno. Never really thought about trying it.

Brass can be a fairly expensive component all things considered. With the SCAR I'm not really worried about finding the most accurate round for it, just want to be able to get out and shoot it more often. I'm contemplating getting a tumbler to clean up brass after I fire it and then selling it to get the overall cost per round down. Rather than reload it that is.

The way I look at it, I'm going to pick up the brass anyways and clean it. I just need to decide what to do with it afterwards.

They do.

If it's worth the time and effort to collect the brass to reload it vs buying brass, it's worth the time and effort to collect it and sell it. If it wasn't worth the time and effort, reloaders would buy brass and just leave theirs on the ground. Blasphemy, right? Because it's wasted money.

For other people who don't find the time and effort worthwhile...they can buy your brass from you lol

It's a great middle ground IMO to buy and shoot manufactured ammo (factory new or reman), collect the cases (sort, deprime, and clean for bonus), and then sell them. You can get worthwhile money back towards more ammo, it's not as time intensive as actually reloading, and you don't have to spend nearly as much (if anything, should you sell the cases as-is) money on equipment.

Granted it isn't always possible or worthwhile to collect brass (for anybody, reloader or not). Shooting matches, brass that goes beyond the firing line or into the prickly bushes, really busy ranges, short on time, whatever...but I think most people can collect most of their brass pretty easily.

I've been to a couple ranges (indoor) that didn't allow people to pick up brass

I don't know if it was a safety concern or if they were picking it up and selling it - probably a little of both

I imagine ranges with that policy make quite a bit of side money selling all that brass. Blackstone lets you pick up your own brass but I've only seen a few guys do it, usually something exotic like 300 WinMag or 338 Lapua types.

Found out this week it's not going to be easy to recollect brass fired from my scorpion. Out of 160 rounds I think I was able to sweep up maybe 40-50 rounds, the rest of it bounced past where I was willing to try and recover.

Also just some quick math on brass selling since we're on the topic.

This stuffhttps://www.targetsportsusa.com/prvi...b-p-59009.aspxis $269.95 for 500 (0.54 cpr) Lets say you cleaned and sold the 500 casings after you shot it for $63 (Just a number I grabbed off a listing I found on Google, many places sell it higher) Total price comes down to $206.95 (0.41 cpr) For just plinking ammo I feel like I'd want to be closer to 0.30 cpr for it to be worth the time reloading it.

The one I go to doesn't care if you pick your brass up, but probably 90% of the people that shoot there don't so they still have good business selling brass.

That isn't necessarily true. For some it may not be worth the effort to gather it, list it, then go the post office and ship it once they find a buyer. But a reloader who is going to reload anyway may as well take home what brass he can for convenience as well as cost savings. Same cost savings (well, reloader probably saves more by not paying shipping), but different cost to benefit ratio I'd imagine.

I'm not in any hurry to start reloading. But I've never really thought about selling brass to offset ammo purchases before. How much can you realistically collect on the big 2?

It got really crazy there for a second. I think what happened was we were engaging people and ended up getting caught up in the storm. Between people getting shot and not having enough meds, he wound up being the only one left alive with maybe like 17 health and something like 11 or maybe 18 people left. He found a med kit in a crack shack (strong) and was able to somehow remain alive until it was either 3v1 or 2v1v1. Wethinka dude took himself out with a rocket, dk. When it became obvious where he was, they descended upon him and he did work.

Two of the indoor ranges don't allow you to pick up brass once it hits the ground.

I use a brass catcher, and it works great. It's not practical for running and gunning, but you aren't doing that at a range anyway.

Not a whole lot if your not dealing in super quantity like a range.

1000 cases dirty brass sell for around $20. You get more if you deprime and clean.

Engine size isn't very important for a first bike. If you learn to ride the right way and be careful at all times you can ride anything. My next door neighbor just bought a Harley Road King as his first motorcycle. Something like 1700 cc, 900 lbs, and all of maybe 65 hp. I personally can't imagine that but he's come a long way in a couple months or so. I knew a guy who bought a Hayabusa for his first and I don't think he ever took that ugly ass thing over 100 mph.

If anything I guess I'd suggest buying a starter version of the type of bike you think you'll want to ride, e.g. cruiser, sportbike, bagger, tourer, naked, moto, dual purpose, etc. If only because you'll probably drop it a few times or pitch it off a cliff while you're learning to ride.
lmaooo. I'll be out before then, mark my words dual. I still have 6 years before then.

Preferably 1 bike to keep for a while. I'll look into it ty

Would not go there, or would go and only shoot steel and aluminum, ever.

Who goes to the post office just to ship one box? Grab several USPS flat rate boxes next time you are there. Print label at home. Put out for pickup.

Again, I am talking about comparing cost per round for factory ammo vs reloads.

If the reloader is going to count brass as free via range pickup, to make it a fair comparison you also have to count the money you can get for that same brass if you sell it after you pick it up instead of reloading it. You are picking t up either way, it's just in one case the reloaders ignore its value to make their cost per round look better.

Wait, now collecting your brass at the range and bringing it home is convenient? lol. Once you are already doing that, put it in a pile, take a picture, list it, collect $$$, ship out with your USPS pickup.

Right, it's the same cost savings, that's my whole point! lolmy point is it's not a fair comparison to treat range pickup brass as free for one side of the equation and totally ignore it and just throw it away by leaving it there on the other side.Or look at it this way,the reloader who goes to the trouble of picking up, possibly sorting and cleaning the brass, could sell it for $ and then buy brass to reload. That would be dumb, but it shows clearly the $ value of that brass that non-reloaders just piss away.

It's not fair to discount equipment costs and completely devalue yourself to where time spent reloading is literally worthless because your time is worthless, but we'll just let the reloaders have that, they can claim reloading is fun and enjoyable and they would do it even if they didn't shoot...

IDK it varies with time.

I swear I got $0.10 per case for 5.56 during the panic but the sites don't keep info that far back and I haven't sold for awhile.

I would never shoot brass at a range that doesn't allow picking up your own brass.

My backlog right now, besides being lazy and not picking up all of my brass, is that I intend to deprime and clean it, sort by headstamp, and then keep some for future reloading and sell the rest...but I haven't put my bench back together (mounted the press) since moving. The rubbermaid has other junk in it and brass just on top

This. The ranges I've been to in VA that have this policy magically have the main collection bins always hidden or very low. On the other hand, the ones that don't give 2 chits seem to always have the bins/cans out and normally almost full.

I've often wondered this. It blows my mind how these people can be so dumb with respect to the issue they are trying to oppose. I see the same chit in the anti-nuclear crowd, and talking to that group is pretty lulzy at times because they are literally clueless on the technology. The sad part is people listen to them, and a lot of times think I'm (or other people with actual knowledge) just trying to pull the wool over their eyes. Funny thing is some of the biggest in the anti crowd have actually listened to some of the biggest scientists in the arena and changed their mind. I'm talking higher level green peace type nutzos.

Funny how that seems to happen when you have an honest discussion about firearms and the anti person is somewhat open to listening and/or going to the range.

Can everyone play tonight? Lets get an MFC match going.
I'll do my best to be on, need to spend a little time in the shop since I haven't been out there in a few days. I should be able to get a handful of matches in though.
