go ahead and pick up 300# or more and get into position. Let me know how your back feels after the 10th set. That isn't even the main problem. Its spending all that energy to get ready to push. That's less energy you could be using pressing.
At some point in ones progress, dumbell bench press gets dropped off in favor of barbell.

If you're in it for life, stick to dumbbells.
There are so many possibilities to trigger growth without heavy weights. That's what most professinal bodybuilders do. They could lift way heavier but they prefer to choose other methods so they don't **** up their body.

I like both for strength gains, but dumbbell press feels much better on my shoulders. In an ideal world, I'd do both, but increasingly I'm doing more DB press and only BB pressing for a set or two a week. Any more BB volume and I start having to work around injuries. DB press, on the other hand, I can add as much volume as I want.

All exercises share one thing in common. If you do them improperly based on your goal, then they're going to be less effective. The problem is that you, and many others, don't understand the nuances. You're comparing a powerlifting style bench press aimed at moving the most weight to a purely hypertrophy based exercise. Seems rather obvious why you claim one is better than the other. Like I said previously, you're not experienced enough to understand why you're wrong
FWIW, I do both and my chest is fuking massive. Probably my best body part. Hit 405x10 on wide grip bench earlier this week.

Who's chest is bigger doesn't matter. Anecdotal evidence is just that. Due to injury and lifestyle I have been unable to train consistently for any noteworthy period of time for the better part of the last 6 years. I sure hope my size and strength is not comparable to those of you who have been training. I don't believe what's best for me is what's best for you, use "lifting straps" or don't it's your body, I do find it laughable you would compare your strength to someone that doesn't use them. If you don't and you have a 405x10 then all the more impressive.
When I used to bench, I benched powerlifting style and made it to a 345 for a double from a 305 in just one month of benching 3x per week + babyslayer style bloatmaxing. I know how to bench. At that time I was DB pressing 145's for 3. You can keep saying I'm "inexperienced" and don't understand "nuances" or you can explain what makes doing the BB bench worthwhile. I imagine all you have to say at this point is overall load to the CNS is slightly greater via BB vs DB therefore it is worth the tenfold ( I don't mean literally 10x, I don't actually know the exact multiplyer according to the data it sounds smooth to say "tenfold") risk of injury to do the BB bench over DB press.

I've already given you the advantage of barbell movements. You immediately disregarded it. Whether it was arrogance or ignorance is irrelevant I suppose

OP, I hit a bench PR of 374x3 paused this AM and just pressed 140's for 8...just do both and stop getting hurt...whatever you're doing to create it.

In my specific case for example (50lbs give or take, 345 - 290) 145lb DB x 3 to 345lb BB x 2
The extra 50lbs of total weight =/= 50lbs load added to the pec alone, it is split between other muscles, most notably the lats.
