Why are you leasing a car when you drive so much brah. I am not against leasing a car but if you drive 36k mils in one year then leasing is a TERRIBLE OPTION for you.

OP - you may want to reread your paperwork. I have NEVER seen a lease for 36,000 miles OR 36 months. That would never be in the dealers best interests. In theory you drive a car 36,000 miles in a month and only pay $500 for the month then return the vehicle - example would mean the dealer now has a car with residual value at $40,000 on a $60,000 vehicle. Now they can sell for $40,000 and collect your $500 payment. They are now out $19,500. It don't work that way. You most likely agreed to pay for 36 months of payments and get 36,000 miles. You hit your miles but still owe two more years of payments I would bet (The $19,500 in this instance). The dealer is not eating that amount.

I just called the dealer and spoke to finance to confirm what people are saying here.

Holy fuk I'm screwed.

Nobody explained to me you have to keep the car 3 years regardless of mileage. So now I've got to pay a $.15 per mile overage for the next 18 months, which is going to be something like $5400 when I turn the car in. I swear this isn't how the salesperson explained it to me. I feel like there's no way they can legit enforce this. I'm also pissed b/c I was looking forward to going and trading the car this weekend for like the last month. I even ran up the miles just to get it past 36k

Continue the lease and at the end of the 36 mos just buy it out at the residual and drive it. You will have paid the full price of the car and will get fair market value should you sell it after that point. You won't pay any penalty on mileage that way.

You can't be srs rn...

The entire concept of a lease is that you're only paying for the initial depreciation of a vehicle which is based on TIME.

Limitation on mileage are additional terms that why when you signed the papers it said 12,000 mi/yr before it said 36000 miles.

They can absolutely enforce this and will, although they are VERY lenient with miles when you turn the vehicle in. I've turned in vehicles 3k over and they waived it.

How many payments do you have remaining and what's the monthly price?

Your lease is 3 years, 36,000 miles(those miles being the MAX you're allowed to drive within the 3 years before incurring over mileage fees)

lol, the misc never ceases to amaze, just because you hit 36,000 miles does not absolve you from paying the remaining years!

LOL if that was the case everyone would lease, drive the hell out of the car in a couple months and trade in/repeat

Get out your contract and look it over. You might consider hiring a lawyer to read it over, maybe you can poke a hole in it or find a way around it. I suspect it's iron clad though.

If you can buy out the car at the end, of the lease, that might be best. Keep in mind the buyout will be for a car value of 36,000 miles, so you're going to take a hit there. Probably better than paying the overage penalty though.

So your options here are:

1) Continue driving the car at the same rate and you'll have to pay an extra $5,400 at the end of the lease that you should be able to have SIGNIFICANTLY reduced if you get another Subaru.
2) Put the car in your garage and have the dealer call you when there's a buyback offer for early lease termination (They may not offer it in the next 19 months is a very real possibility). They'll take the car back early and put you in a new Subaru.
3) Negotiate a lease termination. This may not be successful because you have ZERO leverage besides putting the car in your garage and not driving it for a year and a half. The dealer essentially is going to want you to pay $7,200~ to terminate the contract but the problem with that, is your vehicle is only 17 months old and has not depreciated for 36 months yet. They may be able to work with you a little bit but you just put a whole ton of miles on that vehicle in a very short life and mileage will hurt the vehicles value too. This negotiation will always be easier if they can make money off of another vehicle they put you in.

Don't sign your name on anything again until you know THOROUGHLY what you're doing. You're lucky that this is a Subaru and not a more expensive car.

Tax deduction as a business vehicle/expense. In general if your business shows a large profit your going to pay more taxes. If you have to 'spend' a large portion of the money you make on things like a company vehicle, advertising, 'work clothes', business dinners, etc. you'll pay less in the long run.


Ideally if you own a small business you want to show a small profit margin or perhaps even a 'loss'. I've run across a few people that tries to keep their business operating in the red.

Also the *******s need to stop fighting over leasing vs buying. They are both good/bad depending on what you want to do. For example, if OP isn't trolling he made a terrible lease decision.
