Also, these games (Battle Royale) will simply never be consistently competitive, its simply far too random which is why even the "best" players have wildly inconsistent results when playing against similarly talented competition. There is a big element of luck in these games.

I only know what fortnite is superficially since I don't care about the game but...

You can bet your ass dude is putting in more hours to hone his skills and market himself than any pro athlete out there. It's the equivalent of training 10 hours a day but he also spends hours editing his videos later, managing his youtube channel, website etc. If not, he has guys/gals who do it for him but he pays them like a legit business.

It's beyond fortnite for him, its his brand people are watching. Just like there are fans of Kim Kardashian the brand.

How demoralising is it to go into your officecel job making anywhere between $100-$350 in a DAY and some nerd playing a video game earns 100x more? Doesn't even apply to just gamers, it's also YouTubers.

Exactly. He streams upwards of 10+ hours a day, and has to be engaging and entertaining the entire time. He isn't doing "nothing", and anyone who actually believes that is completely delusional. It is extremely mentally exhausting because he not only has to perform (ie: be good at the game), but also entertaining at the same time, while also actively communicating with his viewers. Try doing that for 10+ hours day in and day out; he is an absolute machine and has been doing this for years on end.

Good for them. I understand why streamers/youtubers/etc do it. Easy money.

My question is: what kind of losers actively follow or donate to these people?

I've watched some twitch gameplay here and there but not once have I ever thought 'hey I'll drop a hundred on this guy in hopes he'll shout-out my name on stream'. Not once have I considered to set aside 2 hours of my day because ____ is streaming for that time.

Imagine finding out your unemployed son is using your credit card to donate to some twitch streamer and spends hours on end moderating the stream's twitch chat. If that were my son I'd beat his fkn ass lol

If it's THIS easy to play video games or be a YouTube influencer, then surely anyone can do it right?

I get that it's not socially accepted but to discredit actual good players (not IG Thots or Twitch camwhores) who spend a **** ton of hours to actually get good at the game and then market themselves in front of an autistic audience for 8+ hours a day almost everyday isn't easy.

Fact is someone like Ninja is in the upper echeleon of what he does while most people are nothing but below-average to average at best and that goes for anything that they pursue.

DrDisrespect went on hiatus for like a month last December because he cheated on his wife.

He wasn't getting more than 5K until Fortnite which he just started playing this year full time. He dabbled with it back in Octobber/November when the battle royale first came out. He wasn't getting anywhere close to 20K viewers in H1Z1 and PUBG. Shroud used to have 25K+ viewers when Ninja only had 5K and he didn't even start streaming until late last year.

Uhm, he was DEFINITELY getting over 5K viewers back when he was winning H1Z1 and PUBG events. Every stream? Maybe not, he was hitting upwards of 20K once his name started circulating. He used to average 1-2K viewers back when he was still only streaming Halo, and barely no one watched that.

I don't get it either. I sat and watched my son play a few times. It's entertaining but to pay money...I guess it's just like any other sport. Makes me wonder how much just straight youtubers make, like Chief Pat. Dude has 2.5 million subs, each vid is basically guaranteed 50k views in the first day it's out. He also get's to travel the world for Clash Royale events and chit. Then you have someone like Phonecats who only has 300k subs on youtube, but who knows how many on twitch, but he gets a chit ton of donations between the various games he plays every day. One day I saw a guy tip $1k...

He was still playing Halo last year.

He didn't have 1M followers until Jan 2018. Shroud has 3.9M followers right now and only 34K concurrent viewers. You're telling me someone that only had 530K followers in Sept 2017 was getting 20K+ concurrent viewers?
