Seems like a waste of resources. What does this accomplish? Put those officers on patrol and let them catch actual thieves in action. I assume the charges (even though they didn't follow through), would only be minor and not a long sentence anyway. The mfer is going to come out even more hungry to steal.

I think when they started doing stop and frisk in ny they realized almost everybody getting picked up for small infractions, usually had even larger infractions already on their records or theyd catch them with stolen firearms or things like that. Most of these kids stealing **** off the truck had priors. The idea that these were just law abiding, library volunteering, valedictorian 12 year olds just playing basketball is hilarious. I think the problem is that for the majority of liberals the most diverse people they see are their housekeepers

I think baiting poor people into committing property crime is an unwise use of funds that does virtually nothing to solve the root cause of the problem. I feel the same way about the billions spent on the drug war, harassing kids for downloading torrents, prostitution stings, etc. By trying to solve one problem through brute force policing and enforcement, you create something that's much worse.

What if the fire department went around encouraging people to set fires just so they could more effectively lobby for more funding? That's the best analogy I can think of.

So basically all this does is hurt the community and make things worse. Everyone knows stealing is bad but doing stuff like this in places like chitcago probably just ends up doing more harm than good even if the 3 guys were charged. I'm all for saying fuk criminals and think we should use the death penalty on a regular basis for murderers but this just seems like a stupid idea in the long run.

They are catching criminals.

They parked a truck on a street. How did they encourage these individuals to steal?

Did they cheer them on? Did they tell everybody there is free stuff in the truck?

In a lot of towns cops have forsaken the ghetto area. Theyre not bothering to go in there because
- crime against their own community is rampant
- its fuking dangerous for cops
- they hate the police
- if cops need any type of help whatsoever ie to solve an 8 year old kids murder no one will speak up

Honestly you can ask cops about this. They will tell you theyre not going in and doing **** unless ordered by their commanding officer. To rephrase if you were stabbed and dying in a nice part of town theres actually a good chance a cop would roll by within 30 min. If in the bad part of town youre gonna be there all night.

How do any of you know that the charges weren't dropped in exchange for future information? Cops do that **** all the time... what do they call them? Confidential informants? I can't say for sure either way, but it's definitely a possibility.
