Look into Northwest Arkansas, the Bentonville/Rogers and Fayetteville area in particular.

I was there a few months ago and while it's a red state with lots of rural areas, the NW area in particular is vibrant, with an exciting downtown, right-moderate politics, and millennials are moving in and starting families by the droves. My cousins and I went to brunch on the square and couldn't get over the amount of young families and strollers coming into the restaurant. Everyone is friendly is heck, and low crime.

The University of Arkansas attracts world-class professors, and they demand excellent public schools for their children. Then you have the Wal-Mart headquarters, as well as the younger Waltons who are aggressively investing in startups throughout the area. Alice Walton is a personal train wreck but my gosh can she curate a fantastic museum at Crystal Bridges.

They don't tend to get a ton of snow but do get ice, but even that is quite infrequent. The economy is hopping with with money from Walmart, Tyson, and JB Hunt floating around, and they tend to donate to things geared towards nature and the arts and education. Crystal Bridges Museum, the Walmart Museum and the Amazeum (in Bentonville) are great places to enjoy with kiddos, and the Bentonville farmer's market rivals anything I've been to in DC/Philly. I spent a lot of time on the trails and Fayetteville has a mini-Asheville vibe, very outdoorsy. I really enjoyed it.

If I had to move back to the South, I'd probably pick NW Arkansas > Fort Worth > Charleston > Asheville.

Trying to change a community is nice in theory, but eventually if people don't want you there, it's so much healthier and enjoyable to start a life somewhere else.

Asheville, NC bro here. This town is very liberal and a horrible place to raise children, unless you want them to grow up to be purple-haired drugged out communists consumed with white guilt (serious). They have BLM rallies here, topless rallies, people walking around wearing "got privilege?" tshirts, the list goes on. Which is why I'm gearing up to move to.......

Irmo or Lexington, SC. Leaning toward Irmo. Both towns are middle class suburbs, good job market, affordable housing, and right next to Lake Murray.

I will miss the mountains of Asheville though

I’d go with NC. I thought that’s where I wanted to end up, but after visiting Colorado and seeing what real mountains look like, I changed my mind.

Yea I've lived in Greenville, Raleigh, Wilmington, and Charlotte.

NC isn't the Deep South stereotype anymore, at least not in the cities. It's very moderate for the most part.

OP I would suggest Fort Mill, SC. Near Charlotte but very affordable and growing.

You'd be surprised how extremist and awful people can be if you don't look or believe the same things as others, on either side of the aisle. Can confirm. Half of my in-laws are from the Ozarks and the people are great.

Denver is no where near as liberal as you guys make it out to be...Denver is mad dry and pretty slow, not much going on, so a perfect place to raise a family...the only problem is you have to drive everywhere and everything is spaced out

Yeah basically. I have relocated 4 times since college and everytime was because of a job. It's wayyyyy harder to do without the job because it's pretty much impossible to find housing without a job in line.

The no income tax is great. Moved there right out of college for a job. When I got a different job and relocated again I got a raise and didnt factor in the income tax. I moved and actually made less on my paychecks lol.

I live in Columbia. Lexington over Irmo IMHO. The traffic is bad going into Columbia for both but Irmo traffic is HORRIBLE and they are about to completely redo I26/I20 with what will probably be a 5-10 year long project, by far the biggest project in SC history.

If I was going to live on the Irmo side of the lake I'd just go all the way out to Chapin instead most likely.

I've lived in Philadelphia, Dallas and Denver.

If you don't like snow would recommend Dallas. everything is super cheap too lots of new houses/rentals for affordable rates, didnt see much traffic. City was clean.
Denver is nice too but lots of snow.

Summers in the PNW are not muggy.
Usually hot and dry.

There are two climates east and west of the Cascades.
East hot dry summers and cold winters.
West warm/hot dry summers and wet cool winters.

The humidity here is called rain.

One of the reasons I moved here from the east coast.

I prefer the beaches, but the western parts of the NC/SC have the mountains you're looking for.

Ok, I can think of several places I've been to like that in the US. But there's not enough information to narrow it down. What else besides that? Do you work from home? Or do you need a high population area? Do you want to live in a city, big town, small town, rural? Are you going to homeschool your kids or send them off somewhere private or public? What activities do you enjoy doing on your free time? Do you need access to a major ariport? Do you want horses, a boat, etc? How many acres? What kind lifestyle do you picture living?
