ahead of it's time.[/QUOTE]The thing is it still holds up amazingly well in pretty much every aspect.

Even the effects compared to the Hobbit - the fact they didn't cgi orcs just makes it look so much better.

I'm also a bluray the extended trilogy every year, usually during the christmas break

Really? I thought the speech and the begin of the charge was good, but the rest was kinda like 'meh.'

I do think it's because the Helm's Deep battle was so awesome. Just the way they showed the strategic battle plan of the Orcs and the planning/execution of the defense. It was just amazing.
Yeah the speech part was what made it. But Helm's Deep > both. Actual strategy and loss involved.

I didn't know John Rhys-Davies (height 6' 1") had played Gimli, until I re-watched Star Trek Voyager episodes in which he played Leonardo da Vinci.

My username shows how much I love LOTR, both the books and films.

Thanks OP, this is a great thread indeed!!

I've been to New Zealand in 2013-2014 when the 2nd hobbit movie was released, upon arriving at the airport they already had middle earth themed props at the airport including Gollum reaching out for the ring, flew on air New Zealand and they showed a middle earth themed flight safety informercial.

Watched the 2nd hobbit a day before New Years and it was so beautiful. The mountains you see in hobbit and LOTR are real, taking the ferry from north island to South Island was gorgeous. Went to matamata where hobbititon was filmed. The film set is still there (or it was when I went) absolutely stunning, went to the green dragon inn and drank cider.

Just watched Fellowship on Netflix last night - the first time in about ten years. BEST MOVIES EVER
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of Your name.

Their relationship was modeled after the "batman":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_(military)#Fiction

Tolkien wrote in a private letter:

"My Sam Gamgee is indeed a reflexion of the English soldier, of the privates and batmen I knew in the 1914 war, and recognised as so far superior to myself".[4]

and elsewhere:

"Sam was cocksure, and deep down a little conceited; but his conceit had been transformed by his devotion to Frodo. He did not think of himself as heroic or even brave, or in any way admirable – except in his service and loyalty to his master." (letter to Mrs. Eileen Elgar in September 1963)

I have seen them all so much. Fellowship by a large margin. Will 100% still be watching these when I am an old man. No fantasy movie has come close, they really do hold up so well.
