I agree OP. From the moment I started working I knew I wouldn't be able to put up with this chit for the rest of my life. I probably have a few years left in me if I can maintain a decent job, but eventually I HAVE to get out of this fuking BS. I'm looking hard into starting my own business now. Maybe ecommerce. Just worried I'll fail because I don't know chit about managing a company.

It's honestly not that bad if:
1) You enjoy your job somewhat, tolerate it or find it meaningful/adds purpose to your life.
2) Can shoot the sh!t with your co-workers and are cool with your boss.
3) Get paid well and aren't struggling financially.
4) Get decent vacation time (3 weeks+).
5) You actually have a social circle and hobbies.
The big eye opener isn't just how little you've done, it's that even in spite of the 9-5 you still could have done most of that sh!t.
I know lots of people who work 9 to 5 but they still have a super lively social circle and hang out with their friends on an almost daily basis. Then on the weekends they can totally relax or take a small trip. Then they also have like 4 weeks paid vacation which is a pretty decent amount of time by American standards and certainly enough to go on a really sick trip.

2) Co workers are legit gutter trash. 1 is 60 year old die hard republican I MEAN DIE HARD with 5-6 kids whom he only is in 2 of their lives?, 2nd one is a 50 year old, 20 years deep with no future prospects so he thinks he lives here works with shoes off, plays radio in a 3 person office etc... (WTF?!) . 3rd guy is ok hes in his 40's trying to chase youth cool guy to chat with, and would actually have a beer.
3) I get paid 50k/year and have the most stress free/ relaxed position ever. But I rather work more to get paid more there is just no room for growth here. (yes i've begun looking for new job alrdy). 50k/year in So-Fla isnt enough to live on your own (without living in someones back yard efficiency. nothnxjeff)
4) 3 weeks PTO year... meh thats pretty standard IMO.
5) I've got a few friends, and few hobbies. But TBH I've noticed my circle of friends just isn't fitting my future vision. Bro's are bro's and I won't abandon them for nothing, but I see we are just on different paths. Would like to add some bros to the circle, but I need to pick up a more social hobby.

Truth be told a 9-5 isn't bad. Its even better if you can figure out how to maximize your time management skills. IE if you can be to work in 10-15 minutes and back home in 10-15 minutes that 9-5 isn't as bad as if you've got a 30-60 minute commute each way.
I work 12h per day but I start work at 6:00AM (and leave my house at 6) and get off work at 6PM (And I'm home for about 5:45P). I spend 45 minutes at home for 'lunch break' at around noon. And approximately 20-30 minutes at home at various other times just popping in to use the rest-room, grab a drink or snack, etc.
I would absolutely feel cucked if I had to sit in an office 8h per day 5 days per week though. If I wasn't a cop I'd probably want to work for UPS or FedEex delivering packages.

Office life is starting to wear on me hard, but thanks to college I'm going to start a totally different track now. If you want to grow as a person then never, ever get complacent, comfortable or lazy.

9-5 is brutal i sit in an office for 8.5 hours every day and have to look at dozens of office sloots in slooty clothing while trying to concentrate. I only see them around in the halls because i work in a basement basically alone. It's basically a jail sentence. Don't know how i'm gonna do this another 30 years

This is why I am heavily interested in financial independence. I am working towards saving most of my wealth now and in the next 10 years so I can retire early. I know it's a tough task if you aren't making 6 figures, but the other benefit would just be that this teaches you not to buy unnecessary things in life.
Even 10 years probably won't be enough unless I make 200k+, but I rather have enough by then so I can probably only need to work part time and trade less time of my life for momey.

One of the best reps in our division literally only work 10 to 2 because he has so many referrals and so targeted with the business he tries to win.
But I have an alternative plan for retirement. Be able to put together about 500K and then retire to be a traveling nomad in a different country.

Sorry but don't believe instagram and some of the hype you read out there. Most people make their living working a job. I worked the rat race for about 5 years, left to start my own business and I ended up losing everything. I went back to school, got into a high earning career and not I'm doing great. Unless you have a serious edge on the market, whether it be product, expertise, or connections chances are slim you'll make it big. The key is not be be comparing and judging to others, especially when your comparing to the exception not the rule.
