massaging constantly and time, unfortunately. Get someone to massage your neck or get a percussive massager and do it yourself. It'll hurt like a bitch, but it will ultimately help. I've had many a pinched nerve.

Percussive massager? Is that those jig saw looking things that I see advertised on IG all the time?

I think she means "vibrator" when she says "percussive massager."

Vex's will work perfectly.

However, I was referring to these, which I would imagine could accomplish the same task as the one Vex posted.

Alright fellow oldcels, I need some wisdom.

I'm working on a strategic account that I need to repair a relationship with. My role is not revenue driven so it's not a sales-y thing. At some point in the last year, someone on my team was screen sharing some data with this client and either typed a message to or received a message from another person on my team chit talking this customer. I don't know exactly what was said, but my limited understanding suggests it was capital B...Bad.

I have yet to meet with this customer and I'm trying to navigate how to do so. They're understandably pissed, and what's done has been done. My gut says to go into our first meeting as I would with anyone, and do my best to read the body language. From what I've heard, the customer tends to present that they are less than happy and closed off, understandably. If that's the case, I want to confront the tension as quickly and diplomatically as possible, something like, "I'm sensing that there's some tension and I want us to work successfully together. Can you share any concerns you might have with me?"

^^^I honestly dunno if that's the best approach, and I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Yep. Just go in and immediately address the problem. Let them vent about it and once they've let it all out assure them you understand and admit how unprofessional the exchange was but it's not indicative of how the company does business and you'd like to work to restore their confidence. Dancing around the issue doesn't do anyone any good.

Agreed Vex, Red I would confront it head on with something like a handshake and acknowledgement then an apology followed up with telling them you are receptive to any comments they may have over the remark.

Also I wouldn't try to read a person's body language because sometimes people get uncomfortable and insulted if they feel like someone's trying to get a bead on them before they make their next move

This.

I only have 1 vendor that I will refuse to do business with regardless of what they say/do. It has to do with work performed that I ended up having to call a different company to fix and they still wanted me to pay the invoice. Not paying for something that you didn't fix.

I do have some sales staff for other vendors that I won't let in also, but that is just those specific sales guys. The managers understand that my frustration is not with the company, but with a salesman that thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread and I understand that also.

Litljay, I definitely believe in chiropractors. I've never personally been but I've seen them pretty much perform miracles on people who’ve had pain for years with no relief from doctors. My first stop is my actual doctor tomorrow in the morning though. I cannot believe the amount of pain I am in and the headache is making me want to off myself. Also when I put my 2 fingers on the left side of my neck and apply a bit of pressure I can feel the area throbbing and it's scorching hot. Fml

RR, what everyone else said, plus if they're the type that likes to do lunch meetings, take them out to lunch, or at least offer. But definitely address the issue up front.

This. It's the grown up thing to do...and with sincerity. If you say you sense something, and they all know you know I happened, it would come off as passive aggressive.

For sure. I'm being overly cautious as my tone tends to be enthusiastic and I don't want it to be read as overcompensating or trying to dance around the issue. It's unfortunate but needs to be addressed so we can all move past it like adults and continue doing good business together.

It's going to be tough as more than likely this will be a remote meeting. I strongly agree that an in-person meeting would be best, but they are refusing to do so and I get it. I think clearing the air as soon as possible is key, but definitely wanted a second opinion. I'll definitely keep you updated.

Ugh, that's so frustrating and I get it. To be frank, dealing with those personalities is really causing quite the headache. I'm okay with arrogance when it's earned. I am not okay with picking up the pieces of a ruined relationship due to cattiness and unprofessionalism, but here we are.

My plan of attack is to meet with them remotely and address, then offer to talk more (really make up for lost time) and take them out to lunch in person. I think that's a great idea.

Great point. I honestly do not think they know I know what transpired...I don't even think they know that the people who did it know. It was just never addressed or brought up, which is even more mortifying for my company. What was told to me is all through a bunch of assumptions which is childish and stupid. I shouldn't be the only adult in the room at my age, LOL.

Thanks again, all. I think I repped all but one so I'll get you tomorrow. Really appreciate your time and advice, as always.

I agree that it's best to go in and address the elephant in the room . . . even if you aren't sure exactly what the issues are fully. Tell them that you know there's some tension and that you want to listen to them and start fresh with an approach to try to best meet their needs and get things on the right track moving forward.

Get some agreed to next steps lined up and set the expectation that you will report back on them and keep them updated on status.

Great advice, thank you. The relationship is so fuked at this point that the person previously in my role was sending them a note once a month to deal with them. It's so bizarre to me. Not that I like confrontation but just, ya know...fix it? I'm going to do exactly that. Introduce, pleasantries, "let's talk about (________)" and move on to relevant stuff.

I don't know what a full nelson anal is but I guarantee I'm going to horrify myself looking it up tonight!

Customer is allegedly not responding to emails and being less than pleasant to deal with, and has asked that specific people from my org not to attend meetings. But this is all hearsay to me, I've yet to even speak with them, so I'm only being given background by other stakeholders. That's sort of why I was asking if I should address it head on or say "It seems like there's tension, blah blah."

Again, a thing that could have been fixed by addressing the problem by the people who did it, but I'm really just venting at this point.

Might add to it if they didn’t already know

Good point. I think most importantly is to feel them out and then address as needed. Who knows, they could be an absolute delight when I get them on a call for the first time.
