Thread:
Wide-grip pull-ups are USELESS?

I find pull ups to be pretty useless for bodybuilding in general. A lot of bodybuilders do, though I suspect its just the heavier fellas
I use all kinds of different grip variations for lat development. Some are more useful than others
Really don't feel like contributing much more to this thread. Seems mostly like a bunch of bickering twinks tbh

All angles have their advantages to varying degrees, just like the position of your bench press. It's best to work them all.
OP I guarantee you can't do as many wide grip chin ups as you can close/neutral grip. Why is that?

When your arm is tucked to the side of your body, it's able to move along the entire portion of the vertical equilibrium‒some 180 degrees. The bicep curl is a 180 degree movement. When you bring your arm forward, your trajectory is limited to some 70 degrees or so. You're missing about 100 degrees of motion.

Of course pulling yourself up using narrow grip is easier, you're spreading the load between more muscles as to concentrating the load on one muscle(group).Yes, and here's why.
With a closer grip, you are in a stronger, more natural position (ever wonder why some people get shoulder pain from wide grip? We're not meant to pull ourselves up with our hands way far apart)
Imagine you need to pull yourself up onto a ledge. Are you going to use a narrow grip, or a wide grip?
A narrow grip puts you in a stronger line of pull, and through a longer range of motion which means you're getting more of a growth stimulus. So you can use more weight.
If you're pulling 90 pounds with your back and 10 pounds with your biceps on wide grip.
If you're pulling 90 pounds with your back and 30 pounds with your biceps on close grip.
Is the back getting worked any less on close grip?
No.

Does it take more muscle to use a fuller range of motion? There you have it. The only way to fully work the bicep muscles is by using a full range of motion. Otherwise, there are fibers missing out on activation, and thus will not see any significant development from those curls. You will develop short-form biceps, and no one will ever note you on your bicep development.

I usually go shoulder-width for pull ups.
Regardless, you think killing people's fukking funny? Well I can tell you that everyone who's ever killed anybody, myself included...from the moment you kill your first person, you're pretty well fukked in your head for the rest of your life. I still have nightmares about the first time I killed somebody--I remember his fukking brains blowing out everywhere and that chit is chit that I see in my dreams, still to this day. So you think it's funny? Fukk you, PiscesNinja, it's not fukking funny.

Maybe the secret is this hypothetical person was using plates for close grip, because otherwise I have no idea how this makes any sense.

Can blaha's fat ass even do a single pullup starting from a dead hang?
He has a video of him talking about doing pullups but not actually doing any.

To the people saying this doesn't add up: you can lift more TOTAL weight this way, and the extra TOTAL weight is going to the biceps.

he's not wrong about the myth...wide grip is NOT for a wide back
narrow is way better just due to the ROM you cna get on your lats
you'll get more teres development from a wider grip
