I find pull ups to be pretty useless for bodybuilding in general. A lot of bodybuilders do, though I suspect its just the heavier fellas

I use all kinds of different grip variations for lat development. Some are more useful than others

Really don't feel like contributing much more to this thread. Seems mostly like a bunch of bickering twinks tbh

Contra-flex is a flexing in the opposite motion of the body or limb's natural motor function. A contra-flex of the bicep, involves a subtle bending back at the elbow (like you're about to give blood), which causes the connective portion between the bicep and the forearm to protrude‒or contra-flex.

All angles have their advantages to varying degrees, just like the position of your bench press. It's best to work them all.

OP I guarantee you can't do as many wide grip chin ups as you can close/neutral grip. Why is that?

no such thing as useless pull up unless it's a kipping pull up
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit softly.

There are different ways to hit bicep heads. Doesn't need to be full movement every time.

The back is a huge muscle group.

Depending on where you grip it will hit a different part of the back.

That being said, wide grip is superior to narrow grip. It's harder for a reason.

Imagine you need to pull yourself up onto a ledge. Are you going to use a narrow grip, or a wide grip?

A narrow grip puts you in a stronger line of pull, and through a longer range of motion which means you're getting more of a growth stimulus. So you can use more weight.

If you're pulling 90 pounds with your back and 10 pounds with your biceps on wide grip.

If you're pulling 90 pounds with your back and 30 pounds with your biceps on close grip.

Is the back getting worked any less on close grip?

No.
You're proving yourself wrong. For the same amount of reps and the same weight your back has to exert more power using wide vs using narrow grip, since by your logic your biceps have to pull more weight when using narrow grip. And comparing a pull up in the gym (where your goal -if you're a bodybuilder- is to gain muscle mass) with any functional movement is retarded imo. Of course pulling yourself up using narrow grip is easier, you're spreading the load between more muscles as to concentrating the load on one muscle(group).
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication

Right‒you only get about 165ish when you come all the way up, but just to elaborate the style of the full range of motion embodies 180 degrees.

Negative.

Does it take more muscle to use a fuller range of motion? There you have it. The only way to fully work the bicep muscles is by using a full range of motion. Otherwise, there are fibers missing out on activation, and thus will not see any significant development from those curls. You will develop short-form biceps, and no one will ever note you on your bicep development.

I usually go shoulder-width for pull ups.

Regardless, you think killing people's fukking funny? Well I can tell you that everyone who's ever killed anybody, myself included...from the moment you kill your first person, you're pretty well fukked in your head for the rest of your life. I still have nightmares about the first time I killed somebody--I remember his fukking brains blowing out everywhere and that chit is chit that I see in my dreams, still to this day. So you think it's funny? Fukk you, PiscesNinja, it's not fukking funny.

Where are the other 20 pounds?

Maybe the secret is this hypothetical person was using plates for close grip, because otherwise I have no idea how this makes any sense.

If one works biceps more doesnt that necessarily imply partial load taken off back, doing less work and less back gains ultimately?

You are able to lift more (20 pounds in this example), but that doesn't mean there's more weight - it means that because you can lift more, you can do more reps. Which means higher total tonnage, which means you've lifted more weight, which equals more strength and muscle gains.

He has plenty of videos of him doing bodyweight and weighted pull-ups and chin-ups.

No, because the back is getting fatigued just as much. It just means that because the biceps are in a stronger line of pull, they can do more work before getting fatigued.

To the people saying this doesn't add up: you can lift more TOTAL weight this way, and the extra TOTAL weight is going to the biceps.

I was just thinking that. It doesn't make sense. If one works your biceps more, it means you are working less back because there's more workload on your bicep so it can't be equal between the two.

he's not wrong about the myth...wide grip is NOT for a wide back

narrow is way better just due to the ROM you cna get on your lats

you'll get more teres development from a wider grip
