I don't think people who are merely "creepy" are being hit with false accusations, though. Every story I have ever seen along these lines is about money, revenge, or sympathy. I do think these things actually happen regularly to ordinary men going about their business, without fanfare, and that it's no secret that a lot of workplace behavioropenly encouragedby the recipient is twisted for money and revenge after layoffs or firings. I was nearly subpoenaed to testify for one of those, too, until I made it clear to the state labor rights investigator that it was bull**** and I knew it. Suddenly, they didn't care what I had heard and seen.
When we go through phases like we are now, where mere accusations become much more damaging, people who are less-than-stable aremuchmore likely to try to weaponize them. I do agree about trust, but people can disappoint you no matter what you thought you knew about them.

These are people with graduate degrees. The only conclusion I can draw is that they are - literally, not Miscally - autistic and are simply, in good faith, unaware of how common lies actually are. One of my principle objections to universities handling sexual assault accusations internally is that academics are some of the most utterly socially oblivious people you'll find anywhere and that it isn't fair to either side. Narcissists and sociopaths are incredibly efficient at detecting well-meaning, credulous people and flogging the hell out of their good faith.

Been reported to HR 3 times for sexual harassment over the years.
1. I was joking in a with other vets and a dependa was offended got me in deep chit and I resigned shortly after. This was when I learned to be more careful and took this lesson to heart.
Then I became a manager in a mostly female environment.
2. First was for "flirting with a coworker" and it made a different girl "uncomfortable". Nothing in appropriate was ever said.
3. Was for checking out girl in a sexual manner... again not the girl that was allegedly looked at, but a fugly girl.
You should see the HR reports file. The world is a scary place now.
