Boxers don't know how to check kicks.

A boxer's front leg is there for taking, as soon as the boxer throws anything (or even if he doesn't) he going right under to take the leg.

in a street fight?

granted prime Roy jones was fast as fuk...so may net a quick KO

but in reality, most top tier mma guys are going to just tie him up, take him down, full mount an then demolish his face

if you aren't trained to defend against that kind of stuff, then you're fuked.

Idk I think McGregor in a street fight would KO Floyd , Floyd's defense won't work with smaller gloves. Of course Roy Jones was a different animal

you have to realize just how important reflexes are in boxing, boxers also have much more gas in the tank 12 rounds vs 3 . all boxer has to do is dance around with their superior footwork and avoid take downs with their extreme reflexes till mma guy gases or gets knocked out

You're not going to avoid take downs with a sideways boxing stance.

ah ok

so sort of like how Conor avoided Khabib's takedowns?

granted its a street fight....so i suppose the boxer could just turn and run away, thats about the only way you're avoiding a take down

Prime Roy Jones was freaky fast. People here are forgetting that. Not only that but he was a freak of nature athlete.

I'm thinking anybody comes within his range is gonna eat a few of the hardest and quickest punches in boxing history and probably go down.

I forget this is the misc though. Sixth grade wrestling is enough to kill one of the Klitschko brothers in a street fight.

A boxer wins 99% of the time in a street fight. MMA fighters rarely throw kicks or takedowns. And if they have no clue they're going against a 50-0 professional boxer it's game over for them.

Lol, get outta here with gay wrestling and bjj. You'd be trying to figure out if that's your brain on sidewalk while using that arm bar.
It was a boxing match - you see those clinches they had? In a real fight, Mayweather gets tossed on his back and pounded out, end of story. You have no fight experience and it's glaringly obvious.

Prime Roy had superior power, was fkn fffast, and an important thing people forget, good boxers have outstanding footwork, well above 98% of MMA fighters.

I don’t recall him against anyone as lanky as Jones. Not many MMA guys I’ve seen would have the speed both hand and foot of Roy, I’d have to give him a decent chance against anyone I’ve seen.

Just because Jones Jr was a boxer doesn’t mean he couldn’t use other parts of his body as well.

Not saying he would win. But in street fight you could knee in the balls, eye gouge, etc.

Because Mayweather fought Conor at 100% in that fight...

LOL at trying to grab a top tier boxer like Roy Jones just LOL. Get Real. I would love to see a bjj get past his lighting quick hands. Are you all not realizing how freaky fast he was? At least Muy Thai you can kick him in the legs, but trying to grab him? Loooool

This. Sure a guy like Lesnar has a chance but the thread is about 205 lbs or less and no guy at that weight is taking roy down he would literally knock you out if you even got close to him. And a prime roy would destroy Mayweather in a real fight with no rules and Mayweather made connor his bish lol

Roy wouldn't throw first. He'd wait for the idiot MMA guy to shoot and then it'd be either one upper cut or short hook to the temple and night night.

The majority of 'street fights' start with a punch, and if someone knows what they are doing it ends with who hits first.

Roy Jones could hit hard and fast, he would likely end the fight before it started.

People ITT seem to think that streets fights begin like MMA fights, (ie. 2 people walk towards each other, and 'stance up'. Delusional. Normally words are exchanged, then 2 people enter conversation range, and then someone throws a punch, or shoves someone.)

I think what MMA fans forget is that Roy was as fast as a Rattlesnake.

Literally the same speed punch as snake strike.

Good luck dodging that.

Haha yeah he taunted his opponents so bad in his prime. I dont see how anyone could get within range without getting knocked down. He handed toney his first loss and was undefeated until he gave tarver his rematch.

Any competent wrestler or jiu-jitsu practitioner would just take him down and either submit him or ground and pound him.

Contrary to popular belief grappling skills do work in the real world in a 1 on 1 situation.

Not sheriff poster itt are serious, OP posed the question as if it was a real fight then posters were quick to jump in and say in a real fight basically Roy would just throw a sucker punch and knock him out, which would probably be true but that is a different question.

You are wrong. As soon as they get within range to try and take him down they go to sleep.

Assuming Roy was wearing shoes in this street fight a grappler would just go for an ankle pick, it would be to fairly easy complete the take down with something as easy to hold onto as a shoe.

You're delusional if you think even the top tier boxers stand a chance vs top tier mma fighters of a similar weight class. Not even sure what else to say...
