Total Wine currently has the Willett Pot Still for $40 for 750 ml. Worth it?

Edit...what is y'alls thoughts about Russell Reserve Single Barrel?

What's the difference between standard Beam? Higher proof or flavor?

Went to a Whiskey riot event a few weeks back with friends introducing me to whiskey.
Half tasted like turpentine to me. LOL!

The only thing I can find around here that I liked from the dozens I tried is Tullamore Dew triple distilled Irish Whiskey.
I can sip it straight/iced while I enjoy a cigar on a fall night on my deck.

they have some aged stuff I may try once this bottle is gone.

Irish whiskey is generally all going to be smooth, sippable and a little sweet like Tullamore. Jameson is the most famous but Irish is all pretty good.

It's definitely the shallow end of the pool complexity wise, but an awesome place to start.

Just picked up another bottle of Buffalo Trace to refill the cabinet at a surprising $26.

Anyone else going to be bourbon hunting for BTAC releases? Anything else coming out I should be keeping my eye out for? Or dusty old bottles from the past that you've enjoyed?

Still trying to find a bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof... elusive.

Not going to hunt but if, I come across a bottle at a shop, I will not pay more than the recommended price. Looking for Stag, THH and Sazarac.

I went a couple years without seeing any ECBP now I see them on the shelves every time I go out. $49.99 is a damn steal, it's excellent!

For the price range mate old Forester is really good. Top shelf I'd recommend basil haydens.. pappy van winkle if you can find it anymore. I am in Kentucky and it'd a rare find here these days but ten years ago it was not a hard find and let ne tell you it was worth every penny

Curse my luck in Indiana, haha. Have to keep looking. Even more insane that it's like $85-90 on the secondary market.

Sheesh! I see people in FB groups posting pictures of shelves full of Eagle Rare all the time and it kills me.

I've found one bottle, 1 LOUSY BOTTLE, in all my years of searching in Ohio. I have to have it muled from KY to Ohio with relatives at holidays if I want any.

I've heard mixed reviews on Eagle Rare. Is it that good or more hype then good?

Johnnie Walker Double Black isn't too bad. picked up some a while ago and quite like it. Smokey, but not that bitter peat.

I like it. Would buy again for a cheap sip some winter evening.

Weird. Buffalo Trace is getting hard to find down here but ER is holding steady at $35-40 a bottle. Maybe people don't realize it's Buffalo.

Peace - you should be able to find Stagg Jr readily for around $50 a bottle. Worth trying before you spring for the big brother. I've gotten a few Antiques as gifts from friends over the years - Stagg is amazing but it's a flamethrower.

Appreciate the tip. I'll mark it down on my to-do list for buying. The sad box that I keep all my alcohol in only has room for about 9 bottles, so I tend to finish one off before I buy anything else.

Time to see what is looking low... haha.

Hi all. Trying to get into bourbon, bought my first bottle earlier in the week. I have Eagle Rare all over the place here in PA, was trying to find some other Buffalo Trace but no luck yet.

I don't really have a taste for it yet, but I'm going to stick with it and see what happens. I want to get a decent glass to drink it from so I'm not just using regular drinking glasses.

Also, the bottle looks pretty badass if I shine my flashlight under it:

It's a short and wide bottle so you probably better finish off 2 bottles. It's the only way to be sure

It took me a long while to REALLY enjoy bourbon at room temperature.

I started out with pouring a couple ounces over a glass of ice cubes because I generally like a cold drink.

Then I tapered down to 3 cubes so I still had some coolness, but the drink itself wasnt terribly watered down. During this 3-cube phase I grew to love the transition a bourbon makes as the ice melts and the flavors become more apparent. The sweeter vanillas, the leather, the cinnamons, etc.

Nowadays depending on the product, I'm cool with 1 cube. I dont need a cold drink, but I still like the changing of flavors 1 cube brings as it melts down.

It's the alcohol burn I'm not used to. I tried putting an ice cube in just now and now swallowing it right away, I let it sit in my mouth for awhile and moved it around. Seemed to go better than my first attempt.

How is the regular Four Roses?
Surprisingly, I've never had it.
Their Single Barrel is probably my favorite bourbon.

The only of Four Roses I've had was the 2017 Special Edition and it was delicious. The Single Barrel is at the top of my list as well.

Their single barrell is great. Their single barrell barrel strength (higher proof) is incredible.

Picked this up at the recommendation of one of the store clerks, who had an open bottle behind the counter that he let me sample first. Pretty delicious stuff for $35 (used to be Jameson Small Batch until they rebranded it). Haven't been disappointed with their Caskmates (IPA, Stout) either.

Pick up a bottle of Elmer T Lee from Buffalo Trace and ship it to me, will pay!

srs.
If I see one in the stores I'm hitting, I'll pick one up if it's not outrageously priced

have a list of 4 bottles from my buddy, want to pick up a couple decent bottles for the folks I'm hunting with (it's their property), and maybe a bottle or two for myself
