you don't think that people who are all in for marriage project their experience on the whole world?

simple fact is it's a title and a legal risk. that's it. if titles matter to you than by all means be my guest. I'm not married and live with my GF of almost 4 years. our relationship is no different than any married people that we know with the exception of if we ever break up we don't have to get lawyers and spend tons of cash to do it. in fact there is an advantage to us not being married. her incentive to not become a fat, nagging total b*tch is still there because I can leave and keep my stuff. if we got married her incentive NOT to become those things disappears completely because if I got fed up and wanted to leave she would have her pick of my chit and could destroy me financially.

But if you are ugly, broke, and have nothing going for yourself, then they have no one to blame but themselves. Some things are in a man's control, and those are the things I judge a man on.

Plenty of ugly dudes with their chit together in all other aspects of life that pick up decent women.

Same way I put up with having the same job. Knowing everything else out there will be worse.

Either way I also know, if it gets bad enough nothing will make me stay.

This. I guess because most miscers are complainers that bring nothing to the table, they assume all women are like that too.

No, because I don't know anyone who is 'all in' for marriage. I already said (in my previous post which you quoted) that it may be really hard to meet the right person, and that it is only that right person that someone should marry. Plenty of people marry for the wrong reasons which leads to all of these unhappy/failed marriages - and if someone reads this thinking 'that's harsh - people change' - well, yeah, but aside from extreme/rapid changes, part of marriage is communicating with your partner. All of this is very, very hard. So, I'm not 'all in' for marriage - I'm saying it can and does work very well for some people.

Anyone pressuring you to get married does not really understand what marriage is and should be. So they aren't really representatives of 'marriage', but rather an archaic/conservative custom that has nothing to do with the true potential that marriage represents.

I don't see why so many are afraid to be single honestly. I'm not saying everyone married doesn't know how to be comfortable being alone, but really whether married or not if you're unable to find joy doing activities on your own then that's pretty sad.

The first person you should learn to love spending time with is yourself (as cheesy and cope as it might sound, there's a lot of truth in it). If you can't do that then you're using your relationship as a crutch and that's a dangerous game because if it gets pulled out from under you life is really going to suck extra bad because you never figured out how to be happy with just yourself in the first place.

Even if married I think you should try to find time to distance yourself from your spouse and spend a chunk of time alone every so often. Problem here is so many people are distrusting if you proposed the idea of needing a weekend to yourself a lot of spouses would just think it's a red flag for cheating because too many people are unhealthily dependent on one another so the thought of a spouse genuinely wanting to spend time on their own is viewed as abnormal/shady.

What others have already described. See, you're the one projecting the negativity on marriage using this artificial foil of yours: 'those who are 'all in' for marriage' and apparently think that everyone should get married for its own sake, not for the happiness of their relationship. That you can't see the value of marriage means that you're 'all against' it, and artificially create the 'all for' it as a foil for your own negative perception.

See clive's posts if you're somehow unable to imagine how/why marriage works for some people.

I'm not asking what others said. I'm asking you what you think. tell me what it represents and how it's not just a title and a legal contract.

Can people be "married" via ceremony and just not do so through the State? If so why bother with getting the gov't involved in your personal relationships?

You sir are from a different generation. These days people gives up the minute something bad happens. People are too scared of change and to work out the problems. My granny stayed married to an alcoholic for years, you know why? Because she didn't give up on the marriage. She didn't cheat on him after drunkin' arguments. She may have vented to her friends, but she stayed with him until he died.

Isn't that with ANY woman though? O_o

Except me of course. My guy talks way more than me.
Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;
Thus unlamented let me die;
Steal from the world, and not a stone
Tell where I lie.

To bump off of what Danielle, and the guy I quoted,
When you got married in 1988, (I was born that year, LOL)
Tinder didn’t exist.
Bumble didn’t exist.
******** didn’t exist.
Instagram didn’t exist.
How about the divorce laws in 1988? Are they the same as they are today? ( honest question)
Marriage rates are going down, people are getting married later because everyone (man and woman) overvalue a high level degree, and put off connection in order to complete that degree.

I see it all the time, these older couples, wringing their hands, hoping the IVF works, praying the miscarriage doesn’t happpen, all because they waited a bit too long. Most of them weren’t married.

Add to that the fact that online dating sets people up as replaceable set prices, and social media deludes men and women into thinking they are instant celebrities, and you can see why DATING let alone marriage, is an obstacle for our generation of youth.

It sucks on both sides, man or woman, old or young.

Give us some wisdom Clive. How do we navigate in this current climate?

Yep. Both sets of grandparents married their high school sweetheart. They didn't have "options." Even if they did it was frowned upon to date multiple people, especially in the conservative south.

don't know about my mom's parents but they were divorced before I was born. lol

my dad's parents however... they met at a USO(iirc) in Iran after she was freed from a concentration camp in Siberia while my grandpa was in the Army. he became a bad drunk post war but they stuck together. she just made him sleep in another room because his beer breath would give her a hang over. lol
