People who argue against reductionism can never present a mechanism by which somehow the collection is exempt from the fundamental constraints governing the behavior of its parts. Of course, this is because it logically can't happen that way.

Regarding my claim about meaning of life...we are all free to interpret that our own way. I look at it from a zoomed out perspective about what remains in nature. From that pov, once someone has reproduced, if their kids will survive to reproduce, they served their "purpose". It is simplistic, and there are other ways to look at it, but this seems to be the common theme that unites all life on this planet. All the other stuff appears to be fluff even if it brings us some emotional comfort.

Not a terrible poster but has some pretty toxic thoughts. I have a lot of sympathy for him tbh, given different circumstances some of us could have ended up being in his position. He's a smart guy but too much of an autist to realize using an exclusively logical and scientific approach to analyze the nature of life and reality is laughably myopic. What other approach is there? Why is the nature of life and reality itself off limits from science and logic? Those are the two best ways to approach any type of problem. Science has a lot to tell us about life and reality as well. A lot of it is very surprising and can lead to a very different perspective about the universe and your own existence.
