Take a fuking vacation and enjoy life a little rather than just working. I'm going to Iceland tomorrow to have a blast and just booked an xmas trip to see good friends in Seattle. Work to live instead of living to work.

I was lucky to know my purpose early. Spent the first half of my twentyโ€™s pursuing to master it. Was so fulfilling but it had some drastic cons.

I literally spent every waking moment focused on improving my skill. Had no social life, now Iโ€™m working backwards to try and improve social skills and live a more holistic life with friends women and business success.

I would tell you to do what you love. You love to do something, wether itโ€™s cooking a specific dish, or playing frisbee. Pursue it with obsession, learn everything about it, find a community, and get better and better at it. Take some time to explore different hobbies

Even just the act of looking for your purpose is fulfilling when you enjoy the exploration. Just pursue anything you find remotely interesting with an open mind

OP, have you looked at military? Law enforcement? Fire? Medical?

Do you have hobbies you can pursue that give you passion?

I'm 36 and in the same boat. I'm going back in the military for this reason. Spent the last X amount of years doing anything/everything and traveling to every corner of the earth and there was still this void that I have that is fulfilled by being around people who would take a bullet for me and me for them. It's hard to explain.

I hope you find what you're looking for.

As soon as my life became easy i got depressed. There is no longer a purpose, my job is mundane and not engaging and i really just don't care about anything. I guess it's called being jaded. I haven't bought anything all year either because i already have everything.

have u traveled to other countries before?

i'm ****in broke, have no job, and no education, and i've wanted to die since i was a child, but after traveling i felt really motivated to live and do things. i actually wanted to go to school for the first time. though i'm in the same place as i was before i traveled because i didn't do jack **** the entire year, still no job, no education. i ****ed it

try asia, like somewhere where the culture is mostly different than your average white societies. i recommend japan. that's the place to really clear your head.
There is only one Hell: the one we live in now.

No way would I suggest you just have a kid as a means to deal with this existential crisis. I will say though that as a general observation this whole "what's the meaning/purpose of life?" is probably less of an issue for people with kids.

I could go on and on but you alluded to being overall happier and far more enthusiastic about life and the future when you were younger even though you had far less money/ material possessions. You've learned what most of us learn around the same age. That the monotony of the daily grind can wear you out mentally and physically and that having more shhit didn't really make us any happier. This part doesn't really change when you have a kid. But knowing that you're doing your best to be a good dad to your kid(s) and that your kid knows that and truly loves you for it is fulfilling on a level that's hard to put into words. This coming from a guy who never had a great "father-son" relationship growing up and was never really sure I even wanted kids.

no wife, no kids, jobs/money are irrelevant.. you have ultimate freedom.

start creating thngs in your free time: paint, write, sculpt, code, cook, compose, build.. whatever. if you find creating/nor your improvement in any endeavor interesting try something more drastic.

brainstorm on a new business idea that interests you and you believe has promise then work that on the side. work on that til it becomes your baby.

save vacation time for a single long trip a year. travel somewhere you wouldn't ever expect to go. plan year around it working on the language and mapping points of interest. immerse yourself in the culture.. live with intent to have life change you rather than slowly die going through the motions.
a series of short tasks over a relatively longer period of time is life. altruistic light moves under the cover of your own darkness.. find this inner torch bearer and accompany them to the end. we all walk together, but we all walk alone. there is no understanding or purpose beyond that

Going into the service as an officer has its pros for sure. Except you're hated by the enlisted.

When people stop learning and getting better at things, they will inevitably feel empty. If you aren't being fulfilled at work (which most people won't be) then you have to have hobbies that interest you and are challenging, yet also rewarding (there needs to be a positive feedback loop for you to want to continue doing something). People are increasingly forgetting about the importance of hobbies and have traded them in for forms of instant gratification i.e. food, drugs, sex, social media, and various forms of mindless entertainment.

Every person should have at least one high exertion physical hobby: A sport, or rock climbing, or even just lifting. Do it and don't half ass it. Make it a point to be as good as you can be at it.

Combine with other hobbies i.e. learning an instrument, taking dance or art classes, building something, i dunno, whatever floats your boat. There are literally thousands of different things you can do. Even things that you dislike but you know deep down inside that the only reason you don't like it is because you were never good at it...practice one of these and watch your sense of accomplishment skyrocket because you became good at something you thought you would always suck at.

Relationships: Not exactly a hobby but this is a huge one and maybe the most important. Just like with anything, you can also practice getting better at relationships, which as social beings will bring a ton of fulfillment. Analyze your relationships and ask yourself how you can be better. Have you been neglecting certain people that deserve your attention? Have you been giving too much attention to people who don't deserve it? Can you be more open with people? Do the people that are close to you know how you feel about them, whether positive (let others know you appreciate them) or negative (help someone become a better person with constructive criticism)? In general we should all aim to help bring others up and minimize being indifferent or worse, bringing others down. This in itself is a never ending challenge as relationships require constant work. But most people just stay comfortable with surface level interaction and then complain about how everyone is so fake/boring.

TLDR; The moment you stop challenging yourself is the moment you will feel bored which inevitably turns into that empty feeling. No amount of instant gratification will rid you of the empty feeling cause your brain is wise to the fact that you didn't learn jack **** (and thus didn't increase your chances of survival) from watching reruns of Friends all day. Find different ways to challenge yourself. There are too many different ways to do this for anyone to have an excuse. At the very least, some you guys can actually start lifting and stop being fat.

Just wanted to point out that no, you don't know what's it's gonna be like. Things are in constant flux, all you have is today, the NOW. The future isn't populated yet. Don't pollute it with negative suppositions.

Also, not my place to say, but I'm gonna say it anyway. Why don't you let your girl go? Why waste her time?

We are capable to feeling extreme pleasure and happiness through sight, touch, taste, sound and feeling. Point is to maximize the experience until you disappear back into the void of nothingness. Stop wasting your time chasing the ghost of purpose and start focusing on doing more things you enjoy. this entails working a job for maximum earning potential, not personal fulfillment, because money is freedom and freedom is happiness. The money from your job will empower you to do the things you want outside of your working hours and THAT is how you best fill the time between point A and point B.

Super srs.
You 100% sure?

That's because that viewpoint unburdens you of responsibility to life, and to the service of others.

I just read Man's search for Meaning, by Viktor Frankl (Psychiatrist and Holocaust Survivor). I've never read a book so powerful before. Seriously, it changed the way I look at life. Let me share a couple quotes.

"A man who becomes conscious of the responsibility he bears toward a human being who affectionately waits for him, or to an unfinished work, will never be able to throw away his life. He knows the 'why' for his existence, and will be able to bear almost any 'how."

"Ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of his life is, but rather he must recognize that it is he who is asked."

"Being human always points, and is directed, to something or someone, other than oneself - be it a meaning to fulfill or another human being to encounter."

"Man is that being who invented the gas chambers of Auschwitz; however, he is also that being who entered those chambers upright, with the Lord's Prayer or the Shema Yisrael on his lips."

Please give the book a read. You'll find purpose in the act of service. Who or what can you serve?

Yes, and to think otherwise is egocentric and naive. Everyone wants to feel like they are special - hand picked for greatness - but it simply isn't the case.

I think it's intellectually dishonest to say with 100% certainty that life has no purpose. You might judge your own life as so, but to say that everyone else's life is purposeless is arrogance.

Agreed somewhat on your last point, not everyone is great, but everyone is truly special-- that is to say, an individual.
