Oh and OP is killing that friend of his. I would warn him about too much LISS and not enough emphasis on diet, dropping calories too low and such but he won't listen, so I'll just leave it at the Good/Positive comment that his friend is looking way worse.
Some negativity, because I am who I am, I don't know your buddy but 95% of people who make random $600 bets like this will welch on them. That's just science.

yeah that looks like a beer gut, lol. skinny fat. the problem with doing these challenges is that your discouragement comes in harder as you miss the goal. i would just stick to a plan and let things happen as they happen. biggest loser contestants pose the same issue. they do this **** for more than just themselves and wind up more often than not going back to their old ways because they made it too hard for themselves. Just keep going brehnuggets

he said he got to thailand and did exactly what i thought he would: went too hard, too soon and tweaked his back. he still says he's training 4 hours a day, and eating no carbs, so we'll see.

To point it out, here is a scenario. If it's *All* about calories, why aren't you eating 1,600 calories of chocolate ice cream every day?
The answer is pretty obvious but it also undermines your approach here.
Calories matter, in that you need to eat less, but it goes a lot deeper than that. You friend might make some good progress, if they're actually going low-carb. Be careful.

There's no way in hell he is going to make it unless OP is in the gym running on a threadmill everyday for like 2 hours and eating almost nothing. Bodyfat still too high.

No other measurement I can think of is flexed, you don't flex your pecs or flare out your back when you measure your chest, you don't suck in your gut when you measure your waist and so on.
Sure, the bro procedure is to inflate the number and flex your guts out right after arms day, but I would personally have a realistic idea of where I am at than fool myself.

Gonna have to agree that I don't think this 1660 calorie, hours of LISS plan isn't gonna work out. You will most likely continue dropping weight on the scale without much change in appearance. I'm rooting for you either way.

Damn, sounds like you're over complicating this chit. Old fashion crunches and sit ups. Little bit of running daily, and you'll see some results. Obviously not 6 pack territory but on the road to it. Good luck OP.

You're actually right, or at least you're right for him to get to sub 15% (at which point, time to try more specific techniques, ones probably better spoken by leaner people than me). I think the major problem here is the time frame. I see the Oct1, Nov1 and then Dec1 progress and I'm thinking he's 3-6 months out. Trying to cram 14 weeks of cutting/dieting into a month is a good way to crash and burn, from my own past mistakes.

I'm not even sure that you actually can lose lean body mass if you lift heavy and eat a lot of protein while cutting (unless you are sssssssuper jacked or something). I suspect that most of the "I lost muscles from cutting" people just overestimated the amount of LBM they have and severely underestimated their fat percentage. They start cutting, and once their subcutaneous fat starts going away and they get visibly smaller they start freaking out over "losing gains". Nah fam, you didn't have any gains in the first place.
If anyone thinks this is wrong, I'd love to see a study where people lifted heavy and ate sufficient protein while dieting and whether LBM was lost.

You might look flatter and feel worse, but that will go away once you start adding carbs again. It's time to PSMF this chit if you want to have a chance of making it.

I'll make this simple for you:
Large, extended calorie deficits = less testosterone = muscle loss

I'm happy to change my mind, but I'll need to see actual studies. It's not as simple as "Less testosterone = muscle loss".
For what it's worth, Alan Aragon seems to be saying the same thing I am. Read the text under the picture:
*Fat Kunt Krew (FKK)* President: Alan Aragon
*C2H6O is the only macro that counts crew*
*4th of October Victim Krew*
*Neg incels for fun crew*
