I think these people are fascinating to us because we perceive it as courageous in some sense to go against the grain in pure self interest or to rebel against the norms of society. It's also like observing another species...Like watching a lion or something. But it is important not to romanticize these people. They are villains, not heroes. They deserve to be killed, and giving them fame and talking about them is exactly what they want.

I wonder why you don't hear about any fuked up serial killers like Ted Bundy, Ed Kemper, Jeff Dahmer, Gary Ridgway, etc. nowadays in the 2000s and 2010s? These killers were all in the 1960s-80s. What was it about the 60s, 70s and 80s that brought about all these killers?

Serial killers have what is known as Anti-social personality disorder(Psychopathy). Which is a result of abuse in early childhood, 1- 7 years of age. Said abuse can come in a variety of ways and does not necessarily have to be physical or sexual.

The child is psychologically ill-equipped to deal with these levels of trauma as well as an adult could. So the brain forms protective mechanisms in the form of alternate personalities which lack empathy as a coping mechanism.

There are many forms of psychopathy, and most are not caused by trauma. Sociopaths are born that way for instance.

Basic definitions:

Psychopath- Will take what he wants from you, will go out of his way to harm you and gets some sort of satisfaction in seeing you suffer in the process.

Sociopath- Will take what he wants from you, wont necessarily go out of his way to harm you but will if you stand in his way. Is not really gratified in seeing people suffer because of his actions. He just doesnt care either way.
