Useless degree tbh, lucky for you all that matters is having a paper that says you managed to spend 3-4 years to get a BS degree. With that you can be trained to do anything after lol

lol yea and giving mercury to treat syphillis were common medical practices back then too. Once neuroscience coupled with advances in other technology figures out the brain, your psychology will be relegated to fate of phrenology and other forms of pseudoscience LMAO

Lol @ physcology being more complex than the hard sciences. Just because science is measurable and the mind is not, you think it's less complex? As soon as we figure out the science behind the workings of the brain, most physiological disorders will be curable.

And even then, the disorders are treated by tangible stuff like pharmaceuticals which are prescribed by people who have done psychiatry which is a legit medical doctor speciality.

I agree in terms of difficulty but I believe that more vocational variations of these result in better opportunities.

For example, it is better to do a branch of engineering than pure physics unless your goal is PhD and research at NASA or something.

Same thing goes for math, math brahs that want industry opportunities always train officially (with a masters or something) or not (just learning on the side) into something more vocational (for instance, learning coding and cs topics to get into tech).

And economics seems to be significantly worse, IDK if brad > jamal/tyrone but if yes it is wrong IMHO.

brad is not even close to jamal/tyrone

it goes

Chad > Jamal = Tyrone >>> Brad >>>>>> Timothy

Linda, being female automatically has more value than Brad, but less than Jamal and Tyrone.

Oh then it makes sense.

Vocationally, it's pretty much EE, ChemE, CS, or gtfo. I suppose statistics should be in there too.

Great post and agree with the order given.

Math in general, especially higher math, is something that needs not answer to any mere practical applications.....like the dude above going on about vocations. G.H. Hardy was famous for viewing higher math as a useless endeavor practically, but interesting to study for its own sake, and I take his postion on this. Just lol @ base practical applications. Math is certainly no tradie. Go to engineering for that.

This list was true 30 years ago and is still true for the vast majority of students. But at the frontier of scientific research, the brightest minds at elite universities are going into biology today, at least according to an interview I read with Freeman Dyson, as well as personal experience. This is because biology stands to make the most progress out of all the sciences from increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence and computing. Elite biology researchers have to be quantitatively gifted to perform their work.

Again, this exception only applies to the best of the best, though. A PhD in bio from rank 15 isn’t high enough, I’m talking top 5 at least.

That's actually patently false. While biology is a great frontier, the brightest quantitative minds are still going into physics, math, and sometimes, CS. This is evident by test scores and is obvious given the subject material. The vast majority of biology PhDs lack the quantitative ability to even complete a mathematics course in analysis or topology. That being said, there are plenty of exceptions.

Kinda this.

The CS/math part of Bio is what is making the field advance rapidly. Not students who are going for a BSc in Bio, lol

Put it this way: there are lots of popular physics books out there that talk about concepts and leave out the math to appeal to a wide audience. This is great, good for everyone to have some literacy. But at a certain point you get into concepts that simply cannot be explained fairly without understanding the mathematics. You can give analogies, but they’ll all be inadequate and misleading. At this point, the math, in a sense, IS the physics.

Biology hasn’t reached that depth of capability yet. The job of academic researchers is to get it there.

Industry is undoubtedly easier than academic research, because in the former you need to be able to quickly learn how to use new tools as they are developed by someone else, in the latter you’re actually creating the tools out of thin air.

A bright 8th grader can learn calculus. Only a genius ie Newton, Leibniz can invent it.
