We live in a backwards ass world, where diversity is a strength; men and women are equal and trans people are a thing.

Such is life in such a world.

This won't be implemented, but IMO it should be mandatory that female police officers have to attend mandatory Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, or Wrestling training, multiple times a week.

Women are significantly physically weaker than men, and need training.

Tbh I would make that mandatory for male police officers too.

Even trained women are still overwhelmingly likely to get beaten the fuk down in a fight with an average man.

And police do get some hand to hand training, but BJJ is pretty useless in actual combat conditions. They need to be armed. In the US, we have a lot of female cops, and they are able to do their jobs because guns, tasers, and pepper spray duh. They also usually pair a female cop with a male cop, so chit like this doesn't happen.

If they were trained to an intermediate or advanced level, they would have stopped that guy together, easily.

He wasn't a 'hulk' and neither did he have great technique. He was an average man.

I don't know why you believe that in a grappling situation (like the one in that video), a grappling art would be useless.

That makes absolutely no sense to me.

You don't get it Wincel...the point went over your head

He's talking about positional dominance and being able to apply your weight...not street fighting.

For instance if the other officer had got him in a standard side control which blocks the hips, and controls near + far side armpits it would be more than sufficient in assisting with restraint, or even a Judo Kazure Gatami side control for instance. The ability to restrain is very important. I have grappled in the past with UK Police Officers who were seeking to further their skillset and the training (I know from speaking with them) they receive is 1 day a year on restraining techniques which cover literally nothing.

IM LEO and tbh most depts only do defensive tactics maybe 2x a yr. my dept does it 6x and most of us are not adept in fighting. And as for bjj im a die hard bjj practitioner and if a fight gets to to the ground u failed imo. Tbh most fights ive had were stand up.and only a few punches thrown before thankfully i was able to get him on the ground for cuffing

In real life, the overwhelming majority of serious criminals (the kind you actually need to fight and/or kill) are armed at virtually all times. This dude was just a dumbass drunk bloke. Honestly, if they had used their pepper spray (does the UK even allow pepper spray?) this would never have happened. They don't train police in BJJ as official training because it costs a lot of money for minimal reward. That being said, a LOT of cops do train martial arts since it is a good way to stay fit and good on your feet, and you will also be prepared in the rare instances where it might pay off.

Serious criminals carry knives and guns, and no amount of BJJ will save you from a surprise stab wound.

That's why here in the states, they ALWAYS have backup, and they ALWAYS come at you with their guns/other weapons ready and order you to make no sudden movements, face away with your hands up and get down on your knees, and then put hands behind head. They then come behind you and cuff you. If you were to approach a cop like that in the states, you'd get tased or sprayed (or shot depending on context) before you could even reach them.

I agree, hopefully it wouldn't get to that situation, but if it does... You're the one who is going to be dominating due to your BJJ background.

I did include wrestling and Judo in regards to mandatory training, which does include stand up grappling.

Because those situations are not supposed to happen. Police are armed with tasers and pepper spray. They are taught not to get in scuffles or to attempt to wrestle with suspects. It's a very dangerous situation, and many suspects can be armed. Their goal is to neutralize and arrest the suspect as quickly and efficiently as possible. Ofc those situations do happen, but they are rare. That is why many police do train BJJ outside of their usual training, but it isn't part of their standard training.

I never said it was useless. I said it was pretty useless in actual combat conditions. As in, the enemy has a gun or a knife. What good is your grappling skill going to do?

Not, in the UK.

Also, if they have foreknowledge, they are prepared with multiple police officers attending.

A friend and I got approached by the police when I was about 20, and we had about 6 cops in a short space of time near to us. (Dude must have immediately called for back up, as he approached us and saw that we were 2 athletically built black guys.)

I used to work security, and had 'scuffles' with people (I've been even been bitten), only on 2 occasions have I encounter 'sharps'. Most people just want to fight to run away, not to fight to seriously hurt you, IME.
This dude was just a dumbass drunk bloke.
They would use weapons and/or numbers to deal with people like that.

In the UK, Taser weapons are popular, along with police batons.

I honestly just think those women in the vid were clearsly severely undertrained and weak.

Mistakes, and worst case scenarios happen though.

Navy Seals carry Sidearms, despite having main weapons like assault rifles and sub machine guns.

BJJ, Wrestling or Judo would be a mandatory trained back up, just like a sidearm.

OK... But that doesn't explain why you think think that BJJ is - in your words - practically useless in a combat situation?

Knife defence can be incorporated into BJJ.

True but its not ideal. And theres a general rule in law enforcement since most shooting attacks etc happen within 2-6 feet and theres an unwritten but generally taught rule concerning knife attacks (21 ft) that if a knife is involved YOU ARE GOING TO GET CUT.

US Military have been doing this for a while with their combatives program

Anyone who has trained knows there are so many holds and positions that neutralize the arms (and no Wincel, by Neutralize I don't mean joint locks, I mean positional dominance)

It's not about a foolproof method, just like the batons and tasers aren't foolproof...but it does give someone and their partner a fighting chance in a violent encounter.

If I'm a cop and my partner has been taken down to the ground by a guy with a knife then I'd hope I know grappling srs

Wincel will go "b-b-b-bbbbut that guy in the video is good and cops won't have the time or resources to get good" well the cops I trained with were good (on their own time and money btw because UK police dept provide 0 training)

And btw if grappling against criminals is a bad idea then why are there literally millions of videos of UK police pinning suspects and putting cuffs on them???? That's grappling is it not? Why wouldn't you want to be able to do that as safely, quickly and effectively as possible? Not only for the public who are at risk but the fellow officers.
