By this logic, you need to be married to a pretty rich dude or yourself be making a lot of money.

Where I live, daycare for children for 5+ hours is about 2k a month. House cleaning is $100 per hour (which is a steal btw) and usually booked in 4 hour increments which doesn't mean your entire house will be clean. Handyman services are $125 per hour at least.

Now add a chef to the mix or eating out.

This lifestyle isn't realistic for the average American.

A lot of people with high income end up having a high expenditure for this very mindset. I won't presume anyone's financial situation here, that would be silly, and I will agree its personal preference what you do with your time/money.

For me though, having an extra 10-20k a year is worth not hiring a maid. There is also the beauty of getting better at doing household stuff, which in turn makes it faster and easier to do.

also I'd disagree that cooking is low-skill and not worthwhile - its pretty enriching to be able to create delicious food for yourself and/or loved ones.

I frackin' HATE ironing and cleaning the tub/shower. I do it as quickly as possible so I can move to doing things I like, cooking and baking.

Husband is nice enough to sometimes iron his own shirts/pants because he knows how much I loathe it. lol.

wtf 100 an hour for a cleaner? where do you live?? that's RIDICULOUS. Here in BC you can find cleaning maids from 25-35 an hour. Big companies will charge more like 50-70 an hour but nothing like 100. wtf.

Damn. That's actually not so bad for $76 twice a week. $100 an hour sounds pretty ridiculous though unless it included a lot more deep cleaning.

Oops, I apologize, I misquoted my above rate. I meant to say that the typical cost of house cleaning is $100 per session, not per hour.

My error, sorry.

I paid $350 for cleaning services to clean a completely empty home in California (my rental property). And STILL she didn't do a good job on the floors. Had to call her back because she missed obvious spots. This was for a 4 hour session btw.

Holy crap.....women in this thread showing exactly why American women are worthless...

I guarantee I make more than all you, work a much more intellectually demanding job, work much longer hours....still have a social life, have tons of hobbies, have a g/f, have 2 tenets, and STILL I do all the house projects, deep clean / shampoo carpets every 4-6months, do basic house repair, and share cleaning in the common areas.

It's seriously NOT hard, and I'm POSITIVE the women who "outsource" this are typical "do nothing bishes" who float through life, have terrible attitudes, have zero work ethic, and are generally chit people. All of those values seep over into your personalities and relationships - in short, you're trash.
