It means doing something slightly outside of your comfort zone, in order to potentially expose you to things that may actually increase your well being or happiness.

Myself, for example. I’m highly disciplined and routined, but being more impulsive (within reason) has actually improved my life. It’s the opposite problem to most people.

Do I gotta find the quote in here of you saying you love socializing with your 3 (?) Close friends & family? My assumption is its them saying you ought to break out your shell?

If that is the case, you love them so much yet they feel youre in a shell & they obv feel sad & disappointed by that, isn't that worth a change?

But do you get how it's worth trying to be like them to actually achieve your goals with greater odds than that of being struck by lighting 6 times consecutively whilst being stood in the same place?

Those goals being, getting in a lasting relationship with someone youre physically attracted to? Because surely you see being the quiet one in the corner isn't conducive to having a relationship at all?

Or are you adamant youre selectively extroverted/social with those you care about? I mean, even still, pretty hard to get a relationship started without being social to begin with rather than being able to be social once youre comfortable or invested somehow in someone.

I don't think you should have to be loud and obnoxious in order to find someone to date. Being loud and abrasive doesn't seem attractive to me.

So when I’m a social setting with loud and buzzed women and they tell me to get “out of my shell” it does not appeal to me at all because I don’t want to be like them.

And again I’m not a homebody at all. I love going outside and doing fun stuff. Just want to clarify being introverted does not mean a homebody.

youve pretty much assumed an extreme here. Of course as in everything moderation is best. You don't have to be buzzed and loud, or terribly extroverted and loud, or drunk and loud. Just something to loosen you up so you're open to being social in an environment youre not necessarily otherwise wanting to be social and inclusive in. That's just being able to adapt to a situation.

Oh yeah, I can agree with that. Just seemed like you were saying it's better to be loud. I can be social in social settings but I'm not loud and abrasive. I also don't really like going out to eat with a ton of people. It gets really hard to talk and then you have to yell practically to be heard and for me that's exhausting. Even just going to a loud bar with 1 friend to catch up with isn't really enjoyable to me.

Going out dancing= yes. Going out to talk and catch up with a friend= no.

Oh sure, generally I guess if you go out in a group, you end up conversing to whomever's closest to avoid that exact situation, maybe sometimes chime in, in moments of silence to restart a group convo. IMO in SS' position, it seems like she could only be loose enough or willing enough to do it after a drink. Again, not get slashed, just buzzed. I'm sure you know, one drink doesn't make you lose control of your internal volume settings.

Yes, or you have those groups that just all talk loud and talk over each other. lol I can be fun and social without alcohol, so I'm kinda with SS on that. Last time I went with a friend to a bar to catch up I had water. lol When I went out dancing I had a drink. Just depends on the situation.

maybe thats a woman group thing lmao, usually if everyones acquaintances of friends in a group of around 4-6, it tends to be more inclusive. in my experience at least.

and yeah, i totally agree you need liquor to be social, but, seems like she does in the context of a group of 4-6 people of which all but one and nothing more than acquaintances.

Prob totally depends on the group of people. Plus the type of restaurant you're in. Some are super loud and makes it harder to socialize. I don't know, the older I get the more I hate having to yell to be heard. That happened at my high school reunion a few months ago. Loud AF and had to yell to be heard the entire time. 2-3 hours in I was exhausted and just wanted to go home, even though a bunch invited me to a bar afterwards. I was like no thanks Jeff! lol

again, one on one? or in groups?
Just not on the same page as people who are buzzed, or loud and attention seeking, or very flirtatious etc. Ime those are the types of people telling quieter people to “break out of their shell.”
I mean, if youre in a social situation with a group of people, arent you wanting to be social and inclusive? Like youve said, people liek talking to you, so if youre not saying a thing and im assuming zoned out, how are they supposed to talk to you?

I can believe youre absolutely fine socialising one on one with people as youve said you care about. But that group of people doesnt really get any larger if its all just a chore and its an american psycho style act, almost sounds like your regular social interactions are learned and are essentially a mask to come off as normal.

not sure if trolling tbh, dunno how you can attempt to pass off yourself as a female patrick bateman and not realise it if youre a miscer.
